Is Technorati Dead?

Anyone still using Technorati? Why?

 

I'm with you, I really never understood the value of that site. It's continually down, too. Seems like every time I attempt to do something, there's an error message about the server strain with a "come back later" thing, I just got fed up with it after awhile.

 

I have used it for a while now (several years) and it never seems to send me more than a few visitors per week.

 

I used it back when I first started blogging. Everyone made it out to be the mother of all blog directories, but using the site is awful and you can never find anything on it. Is it dead? Maybe. I think it's more comparable to a VCR. It works, but who the heck is using one these days...

 

Yeh it is pretty much dead. Thats why they are trying to move into other areas such as advertising.

 

I never saw the value in it in the first place. It's not really a directory, the search function is ridiculous to say the least.
I played around with it for a while, maybe a month or 2 and still never understood what it was supposed to do...and that is much longer than that I would give any other website.
So yes, I would say it started out as a great idea that was never realized or completely functional.

 

And now they seem to have done a BIG overhaul and changed a lot of things in the process. Even some blogs you "claimed" are lost. You have to redo the whole thing again. Plus some things that doesn't seem to work.

 

Any site that i haven't been back to in a while is dead to me.

 

Technorati was good once when bloggers cared to get more fans and authority links.... now nobody cares about it and so it dead.. or may be because its dead no body cares about it.. whatever it is it's not worth your time now ..

 

The update certainly helped to kill it!

There are so many problem that it's not even funny. I don't think I'm gonna bother reclaiming my blogs etc.

 

I remember those days when i used to visit Technorati almost everday to ping my blogs, but now it seems to me a dead project!
Don't really understand what exactly it is made for?

They had a great idea with the site, they just implemented everything wrong. Along with that it really wasn't marketed very well, so most users moved on from Technorati very quickly and there aren't many "active" users there anymore.

 

So do you guys use anything else instead of Technorati? I used to follow it to see who was linking to me, it was useful for that.

 

I am trying to use technorati, but still not getting any result.

 

I sign in once or twice a month just to see link backs. That's about it.

 

Technorati is not good for traffic. But for link building it still has some value.
