I want to make a checklist for prommoting my sites. What are your best ways of getting free traffic? Ideas I have and use..... 1. Submitting to directories For it I use a website like http://www.articletrader.com/directories/ 2. Own Network Crosslinking with other sites I have 3. Linkbuilding Looking for the top 10 of my keyword in Google and for each site look who is linking to them and if that site has a links page asking a link to my site too. 4. Newsletters For some sites I use a newsletter to my customers. But it has to be close to the site where they bought something. 5. Articles I haven't done it yet but I am looking at articles..thought is let a dp member write 5-10 articles about my niche and submit it to places like GoArticles Not free for me but that is because my english is not good enough and articles etc in my language is something you put on your own site and do not exchange. As far as I know there is no article directories for foreign languages. (maybe an idea to start a few?) 6. Forums Posting in forums and using a sig 7. SEO should be on top for me as the most free traffic I have is for organic search engine traffic. simple things like h1 title tag using a oswd.org template and choosing a good keyword to build around do work. 8. RSS does it work? I have bought a parser and have done a bit to include feeds into my site but the other way around...want to start with it but not sure about it if it's worth the time. 9. Press releases Does anybody use that anymore and is it working? 10. ...? out of ideas
Another thing i would add is press release and submitting to social sites like digg, slashdot, delicious etc.
I a;lways thought that those sits were more for techno related things and never looked at them. But it's worth a try

Save yourself some time and money... see my post for some actual results of various programs I have used. Yes, I know each site has different results based on the site content, but my mistakes may save you some time and money.... at the very least, you will be more cautious with certain programs. Social bookmarks. All of them are great to produce traffic, and when you have a good or new or web2 site to give them, the results can be great
Depends how you use them, and where do you submit. For example, Wikalo Classifieds beside having classified listing on the main website, also have the AdNetwork that distribute your text ads across the network of related websites.
deppends on what your selling, if its ebooks and junk, no, if its real things electronics, ext. at a good price ,maybe. the only classified i found to give alot of traffic is craigslist ive searched for others i couldnt find any as good. posting affiliate classifieds is spam, you can get away with it, but its not going to bring many sales enless your product is dirt cheap, in my opinion people trying to find cheap stuff search classifieds.
have a blog in general...write information behind your site, and link to people who inspire you...give you ideas....and of course link back to your main site
myspace is very good for free traffic... directories dont help me much...all good ones you have to pay
Yes, have a blog....honestly blogs just still surprise me so much. I recently added a blog to one of my sites and OMG...I get so many people linking to me...never seen anything like that without any effort or link baiting. Blogs are extremely powerful.
