I recently bout an Custom Acer running a Pentium D 2.6Ghz with a little over 500 MB of RAM.

The noise on this thing is killing me. I took it back to have the hard drive checked and it was fine.

I have been reading up on fans and how to quite them. Can anyone offer some immediate suggestions to lower the noise level?

I have a temp and fan monitor installed.

Make sure there is no wire touching the wings of fan, it creates a weird noise.

If thats not the case, go for a new ORIGINAL INTEL fan, they are good. I had same problem, i changed my fan.

or if it's just a loud ass fan you might not be able to 'do' anything about it, other than buy a different one.

we talking CPU or the case fans?

    I use Thermaltake for both.

I have these for my case fans (3 of them, though not the quietest in the world - but not stupid noisy either) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16835999111 BUT I did like the 3 setting choices - full bore, pot adjust, and sensor controlled.

I bet if you looked around you could find something ultra quiet to suit your needs.

this is my CPU fan http://www.thermaltake.com/coolers/volcano/rs/a1365.htm

Uhh, find out which is the culprit and disconnect it?

    Just make sure it isn't:

    video card fan
    any heatsink fan, esp. cpu

    Make sure it is:

    case fan
one of those hdd slot fans
    pci plug-in fan thing

this is close to topic, could it be a small power supply that makes my video card fan make noise. it seems to have a low constant hub but every second or so it seems to get louder.

    I don't think so..

    There's still warranty on it?
I would go back to the store and ask for a replacement videocard.

    3 Ways:

    1) Same computer cases have a separate metallic layer behind the case which punched. if your 2nd fan connected to this metallic layer, you must open the door of your case. then remove all the small metallic layers connected to this layer.

    2) Be sure your wires are not near of your fans

    3) And also you can increase the fan noise by changing your cpu fan to a fan which is able to simulate the refrigerator. the name of this unique fan is [zalman CNPS9500].
