worried about my high click through rate..

I'm not bragging, I'm a total newb to adsense and the webmaster thing in general and I'm not getting much traffic, but half the people that come to my site end up clicking on one the adsense links. Seriously 40 to 50% ctr in the past few days.

I want to take care of this account because I have big plans for it. Should I make the ads less obvious?

That's pretty high, but not necessarily due to invalid clicks. That's especially true if you don't have very much traffic, where the difference of a couple of clicks can cause a big % change in CTR.

It probably will make Google do a thorough review of your site. Make sure your layout doesn't cause people to accidentally click on your ads - misleading headers, drop-down menus that overlap the ad links, layout that makes the ads look like navigation, graphics or other design elements that draw attention to your ads, etc. There shouldn't be anything "tricky" at all.

Nothing much to worry about it since high CTR happen on low traffic site is common as long as it is natural click.
Just track the ip is good enough

That sounds like you might be on to something, as long as they are legit clicks and you're not tricking visitors into it. Keep on working on increasing your traffic by getting more backlinks, posting more articles, etc. Also, test text ads vs image ads and see which has a high ctr and pays more.

Where are your visitors coming from? Are they organic or from referrals?

I've just posted a few blogs. For the few visitors I've gotten this morning I have 100% ctr.

I know why it's happening. I'm using 2 of the large rectangular blocks and one of the horizontal thin ones and they are amazingly targeted to my niche with interesting well written ads. I think I'm going to remove some of the ads to bring the ctr down.

Too high CTR. You have to concentrate about your visitor.
Make sure you got the valid click.

If you got the natural click, notthing to worry.

But if not hurry to contact google and report them.

I removed one of the ad blocks and replaced it with a picture. I will see what this will do.

If you have high click thru rate, then why not try some other revenue generating programs that give you more money than that of Adsense.

I should worry too much about it as long as they are all legit clicks. anyways we can never control what Big G thinks as invalid or valid clicks.
But for low traffic sites it normally gets high CTR because ita mainly targeted.

    Thanks

Ask the adsense team for a review of your website to ensure they aren't anything illegal occurring on your website. Certain things they will look for are ad placements, IP addresses that clicked on and the ratio how many visitors you are getting to how many of them are clicking.

It depends how much traffic you are getting and what the content is like. If you have say one article and lots of adsense ads then you will get a high CTR but it is not sustainable.

Wow 50-100% CTRs didn't think it was possible. How could half of everyone that visits your site click on your ads? Doesn't seem very likely even for low targeted traffic numbers.

It is very likely that your layout is somehow 'helping' you get the click. You have to make sure that your ads are not hidden behind images, or behind misleading text. To ensure that you don't get banned, check your site out thoroughly to be sure that it isn't breaking any of Google Adsense rules.

If everything is alright after the check, then I guess, you can breathe easy... a bit. But there is still the possibility that you might still get banned by Google, especially if you still regularly get CTR's of a 100%. I don't think Google will believe that they all legitimate. It is extremely uncharacteristic of visitors to behave so positively towards Adsense ads.

Anyway, good luck with your investigations. Even though it sounds incredible, my advice (for all its worth I’ve never got CTR's more than 10%) is to try and get your CTR levels down to more believable levels. If you got it down to something in the region of 25% or less you may escape a possible Google ban. I know it’s not fair (especially if all your clicks are from legitimate sources) but CTR levels are one of the ways Google determines the authenticity of clicks.

    Good luck.

It sounds very high indeed, does your site have much content or is it mainly google ads?
