Any Recommendations?

    Hey guys,

I'm pretty frustrated after trying to configure the server, maintain the website, modify the website, and all the BS that goes along with that...

So I think I'm going to seek the help of an affordable server management firm or something like that...

does anyone recommend any good firms, or someone talented in FreeBSD to do a quick setup, and 3rd party software install?

Required to be installed and/or configured:

    lightttpd + php
    MySql
    DNS
    Domain
    Postfix

    anyway, let me know...

    Thanks in advanced.

I've read nothing but GREAT reviews about AdminGeekz.com, however they are a bit expensive ($60/hour). They are for-sure worth it and won't waste your time. For the most low cost solution, it's usually always cheapest to get management through whoever you purchase your server from.

I'd be weary of any "remote admin" service that only supports Cpanel on a Linux server. I don't mean to belittle them, but if they only support Cpanel, I'd be really hesitant before I gave them access to a server....

I think its a great service for Cpanel on Unix boxes honestly.

Many companies specialize in providing a service so its not all that unusual for a business to focus on one area.

Considering a great majority of the larger sites are on Unix boxes it makes sense actually.

This also leaves room for someone to start up a service perhaps focusing on windoze server admin only....

    :)

Google'ing for the company name pulls up this thread:

    http://www.webhostingtalk.com/archive/index.php/t-445319.html

The service we use only supported CPanel when I first talked to them as, sorry to say, most folks see that as a standard. We use Direct Admin and when they found out about that, they leased a box and worked out the differences between the two.

I'm paying about $80 a box per month and, for those boxes with shared clients, 80 cents a client for unlimited level 1 and 2 support for them and a hourly pool for level 3 and 4 support.

    I wouldn't trust a 30 a month service though.

Oh my a company who has a customer that's not happy......
I would say 100% of companies currently in business have a customer who is not happy.....you more than likely have some as well.

Date of this alleged customer complaint is over 4 years old. (no proof they were a customer, could be a nasty competitor)

Hate to say it but you're grasping at straws to say the least...

Additionally the company I referenced is Platinum Server Management not Fast Server Mangement, so now you have cast dispersions wrongly...

My point behind the Linux comment was that the OP was running FreeBSD.

FreeBSD is closer to UNIX than Linux, and most of the major sites do not run UNIX, but usually Linux.

I gather actually reading the link was too much for you? You would have discovered that 1) they are in fact the same company, just with a name change, 2) a number of folks in that thread complained about their level of service and 3) at no time did I cast a positive or negative opinion of the company.

Additional google'ing would have shown you or anyone else the same.

That link was also given as it explains in a fair amount of detail what server management entails and is a good read just for the discussion on the topic.

I would think you should know better than posting what you did.

I know exactly what I am posting.

Many people 5 years ago complained about any hosting company that existed at that time, not one company had a 99% uptime.

Hostgator, Godaddy Apollo all had issues. I would expect a server management company would have encountered problems as well due to the fact the hosting providers themselves could not function properly.

But to use an example of a complaint from that long ago is baseless to say the least, and your simply arguing with me, so that you can be right.

    You win!! Youre right
