According to a report by McKinsey, In 2005, 54% of Indian households had an annual income of less than $1969 (considered as "deprived"). Note these are household incomes and not individual incomes. 41% of Indian households had an annual income between $1,969 and $4,376. (considered as "aspirers"). rest, 5% were middle-class and rich. =================================== by 2015, the middle-class and rich households would be around 22% of the Indian economy. 35% would still remain in the "deprived" category.
It's good to see that India is progressing in income and quality of life at least in some speed. Step no 1 how to help it locally: don't work for peanuts on DP and similar places.
