I am running an online flower shop www.blossomcart.com. I have keywords "flowers" and "online flower shop" almost in every page. But I am still rank +100 on all of the search engines. What should I do to move up? I am very new in e-commerce, therefore I need a detail, step by step advice on SEO. Thank you very much.
You need to be more realistic about choosing keywords - 'flowers' in far too broad and competitive. Start by thinking about keyword phrases that are specific to what you offer, use the Google adwords external keyword tool to make sure that they get a reasonable amount of searches per month, then use those phrases - pick a couple to start with to target - and use them as page titles, headings, navigation and anchor text for internal and external links
Some problems I ntoiced 1. Very broad keyword targeting. 2. Inefficient internal linking 3. Poor quality contents 4. lack of content 5. Lack of proper keywords in links get those points right
1) i would start with some good keyword research. go to seobook keyword tool, find 2 to 4 word long tail keywords to target. 2) make sure to optimize for 1 phrase on each page (title, description, keywords, on the page itself, try to make the url www.domain.com/my-keywords-here.php) 3)sign up for google webmasters, make sure theres nothing wrong with your pages (ie duplicate content), go to settings and select country target, www or no www, submit a sitemap 4) build a variety of links (submit articles to ezinearticles, goarticles and link back to your site, submit to some good directories like botw.org, do some social bookmarking, blog commenting on dofollow and high pr sites, etc
Ya you need to start ASAP. E commerce is a tough market to be in especially with the multi million dollar companies entering the market. All the best to you. My first and foremost advice is to target a local search term like flower delivery in Seattle or something like that
Hi there, Yes, very true there is a lot of research that you will need to do to make sure that your site is well optimized. My best suggestion would be to make sure of the FREE SEO Analyisis report offered by http://genuineseo.net/ Try it and implement the feedback and then see where you stand.
it doesn't matter how many times your keywords will appear in your pages.. keyword density is a myth, what you need is links from authority sites like botw, the yahoo directory, the dmoz directory, quality flowers websites..
Many people can become completely overwhelmed with the process of optimizing their website. Often times, every change you make leads you to another change you need to make. At times the process begins to seem endless. One issue that causes this, is trying to focus on too many things at once. Approaching this process one baby step at a time is absolutely vital. YOU HAVE TO LEARN SEO STEP BY STEP Okay, I know many of you have heard me ask this multiple times, but I am bound to ask it many more times over the coming months. QUESTION: How do you eat an elephant? ANSWER: One bite at a time . . . (serious groaning here!) Now let’s begin to focus on things that will help you keep on track, without becoming totally overwhelmed. One of the most powerful methods of overcoming this feeling is to put yourself in a position to be able to enjoy rapid rewards for the work that you do. Every step you take is bringing you in the right direction. HOWEVER, many of us are perfectionist . . . (you already know who you are) If you wait for your site, (or even a page for that matter) to be perfect before uploading changes, it will take far too long for you to see results. If every change you make brings you a little closer to your target, you get excited. You actually begin to see where you are headed. The more excited you get, the easier it becomes to follow the steps without becoming discouraged. DO NOT WAIT TO PUBLISH (UPLOAD) CHANGES! - Once you have selected the title for your page, make the change and publish the page. - Once you have added some content while working on keyword density, publish the page again. - Once you have added effective alt tags to a page, publish the page again. - Once you have added effective heading tags, publish the page again. - Once you add an effective keyword meta tag, publish the page again. - Once you add an effective description meta tag, publish the page again. - Once you have added some effective anchor text links, publish the page again. - Once you have added title attribute tags to your links, publish the page again. First, you will begin to rapidly see the results of all your hard work, one step at a time. The second benefit of this method of continually uploading your changes, is that Google LOVES new content. The more “spider food†you feed the bots, the more often they will return looking for more changes. Above all, relax and have fun. Don’t worry about how much you are able to do at a time. Do what you CAN do as you can do it. Every baby step brings you that much closer. Just take things one step at a time at a pace comfortable for you.
I believe Jollyboy is spot on with his advice (assuming Jollyboy is a he ;-)). What I would include is that you can drill further to be flower specific too. For example, what about the keywords: "roses seattle", "tulips seattle". Even better, try "cheap flowers seattle", cheap roses seattle". In these cases, you're combing the "keyword phrases + location". Another idea is to harvest your database. Analyse it and identify who your top customers are. Send them a FREE gift and ask for a testimonial. Then offer them a discount to send flowers/gift to any friend/family of their choosing. Have a deadline. If you would like some more information to help you, send me a PM. Trust this helps. Good luck ;-)
Yep. I am he alright!!! That's why the word boy in my DP username!!! I would like to add the fact that adding a blog to your e commerce site would be great. Write articles like "Which flower a girl likes the most" or "How to woo your girlfriend with flowers" etc. At the end link to a product you sell. Blogging is a great way to get some search engine traffic to your site if you do not have the funding to do PPC work. Also try to make some videos of your service with links to your site. try to make a viral video (Something funny, attractive, captivating etc) and make sure you link to your site. If it clicks you are in for a roll
I Think that it would be a good idea to use google wonderweel for your, that will show you how google related keywords to your topic. That can really give you some good advise. You can also go for local places, like "flowers in califonia" Or maybe, I dont know much about flowers, but you could use keywords like "flowers FROM califonia", if there is special palces known for interesting flowers.
I agree. Rather i would suggest you have a good keyword density. . Again as a renminder yeah the targeted keyword is really competitive. I would suggest perform good Onpage optimisation first and perform Offpage optimisaton. Is your business new?, if so rather going for competitve term initially target for long tail keyword. Regards Gemma
As a e-commerce site, I suggest you to narrow down the targeted keywords to specific location or long tail keywords with low competition using Adwords Keyword External tool. Low competition means: - Low monthly search volume - Low search results in google Next, is you need to build some quality dofollow backlinks anchored with the keywords or keyphrases that you targeted for. Try to get one way backlinks from - Article directories with dofollow anchored link at author section. - Flowers related Forums signatures - Flowers related Blogs - Dofollow Blog commenting - Social bookmarks - etc There are plenty of ways to get dofollow backlinks, and if you want to increase SERP ranking on google, you need to get dofollow backlink with anchored keyword. Only dofollow link will help SERP increase in google.
Hello, I can not believe how helpful this forum is. I post a question and I got that many advice. Thank you, thank you, and thank you. My flower shop is an online flower shop, there is no location. so cheap flowers in Seattle and such will not work for me. I am trying to narrow my keywords to roses, cheap roses, any advice on these? Thanks again.
You can actually have a better idea how competitive a word is on google or how many searches that keyword has a month by going on this link. https://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExternal The more searches a month the more competitive the keyword will be . I think that's to high for now you need to start from bottom to top. Check the image that I upload. Actually the keyword "Online Flower Shop" has 14,800 which is to many searches = high volume = too competitive. If you add an "s" on "Flower", you will find it has 1300 which is very easy to target. Another thing you need to look at is the optimization. You website is to heavy it is more than 2500KB. You need to optimize it, otherwise you can loose clients from low speed internet. I will recommend something between 400kb to 700kb is good.
The keyword "flowers" is way too competitive to even think about. You should definitely foucs more on longer tail keywords.
