Has anyone used wordpress software as a directory?

where submitters would submit sites and would be published as short blog posts

As was pointed out to me by someone else before, it could kind of look spammy because the content is very short.

That integration will be the last thing on this earth I may wanna do. End up spoiling the beauty and working of a web directory.

I think this is a great idea, however the more I think about it the more I realize that it will be a huge task to maintain. You need great content on a daily basic, both romow and dirjournal have some pretty damn good writers behind them so it will be tough to live up to that. But if you think you have skills and articles to do it then go ahead.

Im not talking about directories having a blog or a blog having a directory.

I'm talking wordpress and its posts BEING the directory itself

I see your point. I don't know of any automated directory system for WP, but you can use the MM Forms Plugin to collect the submissions. Then, you would have to manually transfer the data from the form to the blog post. Doesn't seem practical, unless you could somehow customize the plugin.

i was actually thinking doing quite a bit of modification to Wordpress that would allow gust posts (that would have to be moderated before showing up) and payment system for it.

I might make that my next project.
