I have a phpbb forum in a sub directory under a shop. like: webshopdomain.com/forum The shop is being indexed normaly by google but the forum is not. Only few old posts are indexed when doing a search via google. I can see that google bot is visiting the forum but nothing new is being picked up. 1. Any ideas what i can do to make google start indexing the forum? 2. Is there a way to submit a sitemap.xml for a forum?
I think there's a mod for phBB forum that makes it to have SEO friendly URL or permalinks plus a sitemap generator. Try searching it on phBB forums.
I dont think is has anything to do with bad SEO of the forum, but something with google not indexing new content. Can a forum be black listed on gogole?
I suggest you to use Social Bookmarking sites and Social Networking sites to get fast indexing., You can bookmark and promote your site on these sites to get fast indexing.. # Digg # Stumple Upon # Twitter # FaceBook # Delicious # Diggo
Create a sitemap of the forum and submit it to your google webmaster tools. Have some links going to the forum from other sites, like your signature here on digitalpoint Submit a link going to the forum to several social bookmarking sites. Create a yahoo blog log account and submit the forum RSS feed to your blog log account. Submit the forums RSS feed to RSS feed directories, like rss mountain, rss micro Make sure the directory the forum is installed in is not blocked by the robots.txt file check your google webmaster tools for errors and messages
Thanks for these tips, i will definitely try few of these. Can anyone recommend a good tool for creating sitemap.xml in phpbb 3??
usually submission to high traffic sites e.g. social networking sites help. however sometimes it may take extra time. don't worry about it.
Do some links directly to your forum. Promote your site on Twitter & delicious & digg. You must make your content more attractive for users (with good threads). If the forum is growing the bots will loves your site.
phpBB is very hard to get indexed, my forum used to be in phpBB before I switched over to vBulletin. After I made the switch, my forum is indexed pretty well.
Creating a sitemap helps your inner pages or sub-pages get index. Build Links - deep linking helps your sub-pages get listed.
I forgot to mention that I indeed have vBSEO plugin installed But even after I made the switch to vB, without the vBSEO plugin the forum was still indexed quite well. Google seem to love vBulletin for some reason.
Vbulletin is already search engine friendly. There is no need to install any modifications. No it does not. The only thing that vbulletin may need - and that is with any site - is a sitemap. VBulletin already indexes easily by the search engines. Yall make it sound like you "have" to have the vbseo modification installed, and that is not true.
On this page: phpbb.com/community/viewtopic.php?t=296051 You will find a Mod that will automatically generate sitemap for your forum.
