Is blog commenting an effective way of link building...

In my opinion you need to get backlinks for different source

including dofollow and nofollow

if you are owner of big site then you have financial budget at your disposal then you may buy advertising space from good sites..

or do what others are doing...

less expensive (cheap) and lots of links...

other ways of getting backlinks
1) blog commenting
2) blog creating.
3) social bookmarking
4) forum posting
5) articles..
6) link wheel

all these are free resource
other wise you can outsource..

backlinks are key to success..

and blog comment spammers are of two kinds
1) who spam short sentence..
and same

2) those who have many general comments in stock
they use differnet ip address, email address, useragents etc.. etc..
consider different things to post comments..ahm spam blogs.. ;-)

 

Blog commenting is very valuable thing if you done it by right way. Spammy and one line comments are not consider as a effective way. You have to submit quality comments.

 

What if I don't use keywords/anchor texts and instead use my own name or the American names? Because most of the good blogs frown if we use commercial anchor texts and keywords in order to get backlinks and rank in Search Engines. So if I comment with names including a hyperlink to my website / blog, will it be useful to me?

I agree with you that it is certainly not a waste of time. The people here who say it's a waste of time are really missing out badly on a very potential strategy of link building. I didn't want to comment on those who said it's a waste of time because they have made conclusions without doing proper homework and I wasn't interested in changing their opinion. I still believe do follow blog commenting works.One should write quality comment and add the blog link with that comment.Visitors will surely follow if they find the comment to be good.It has worked for me.

 

I use a very reputable coaching website, and they encouraged me to comment on blogs to increase sites linking in to my website. I think someone said this already, but it is important to comment on good blogs, not any blogs. I recommend using wordpress or blogger since they are highly recognized by Google. Good luck!

I do believe that blog commenting is still an effective way of building links to your portal - but only if you use it the right way.
Right way I mean - commenting on a blog posts and not just spam by leaving an unrelated out of topic comment just to place a link.

Especially when you are able to link on .gov or .edu blogs or portals, your link may have a higher value on it.
