"Google Friendly URL"

Awhile back, I was told by somebody that some URLs inherently have a better chance of being high ranking than others. I assume he was talking about the method of doing www.example.com/articles/SEO-tips.html, but I am also curious if anybody knows if certain URL structures before the page location itself are better.
Is http://www.buy-the-cheapest.com better than http://www.buythecheapest.com, etc?
I currently own http://www.buy-the-cheapest-acai.info and I am debating on what to do with it. There is a page up there, but it is basically just a placeholder until I design a better site.

I actually own www.buy-the-cheapest.com at the moment. I bought it thinking I'd put a bunch of affiliate stuff up there, but now I'm not sure what I want to do with it!
I see that searching for buy-the-cheapest.com and buythecheapest.com seems to have given me the same results.

A URL with "www" in the prefix is supposed to be liked by the search engines. WWW in the domain helps to gain trust of the search engines IMO.

Um...Where did you get that information?

    Consider:

    http://technorati.com/
    http://animoto.com/

....and millions of other websites that don't use www :)

Yup,me too had a similar doubt about this previously and wondered why other url's without www could rank so well.To determine how Google reacts,I had run a split test on two of my domains, one with www and the other without it.In terms of backlinks and rest of the parameters,I had kept the same.To my surprise the URL that contained 'www' had gained better ranking in Google than the other one.

    Similar question

    Is .com/store/Byron-Katie/ or
    /store/ByronKatie/
    better for optimization?

I've checked the guys at stomper nets sites and they do it both ways, also with a _ sometimes.

    Which is better?

IMO, there is not so much difference is there is Dashes and Underscores in google's eyes. Google has been clever enough to dectect that.

Only, most of the people concern about the user's typing habit! But, let me ask u how many peole remember a UPL, and type in??

They use google! SO, really, not so much difference!

I don't think it matters much to be honest. Look at sites that don't even have any relation between domain and content and still rank at the top.
