Yeah, Dems boo'd Bush multiple times while giving speeches. I don't recall it making big news as it being a HUGE deal or any apologies either. I think Wilson took it to another level (and apologized), but they're both very disrespectful.
True.. Very true. What democrats always seem to forget is that this is a two way street. I bet if Wilson started hooting and hollering about how great Obama is and how he is going to save the world, the interruption would have been welcomed and applauded. Hell, that very same thing happened today during Obama's speech to the AFL-CIO. Some women interrupted the president and he stopped and acknowledged her. Of course she said "I love you brother", not "you lie". Its a two way street guys. Remember that.
Agreed, Reseq. I just think there's a place and time, and it doesn't matter who blows it - blowing it is blowing it.
Former President Jimmy Carter said Rep. Joe Wilson's "You lie!" outburst last week was "based on racism" http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2009/09/16/carter-racism-claim-draws-widespread-criticism/ http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2009/09/15/politics/main5314174.shtml ...uggg
Can this man get any more ignorant? This coming from the worst president we've ever had. Wow... Carter, maybe its time to just leave the lime light.
Yeah that was a pretty dumb comment for an ex president to make. But Mia, if you're wanting to have the Bush vs. Carter W.P.E. debate I'm ready when you are Just starting off with the economic numbers at the end of each term, Bush is already losing.
Kinda typical Carter though. What's the point? I've lived long enough to recognize the reality of that mis-statement. I really would not go down that road.
In the midst of all the things going on this item is relatively little..but it creates great media and shock value for all the big mouth politicians on both sides. Nate: the difference between Wilson's solitary act and the booing from Dems at Bush..or the booing from Reps at Obama is in degree. Nobody had done what Wilson had done. Its against house rules. Its simple. Following the event all members of Congress were against it. Nobody could recall something of that ilk having happened. People could recall group boos from one side or the other. Wilson apologized. Its a difference in degree. Suppose it was a school assembly. Some kid yells out..."You Lie.". The kid would be disciplined. Its simple. Suppose some boss in some business was giving a speech in front of the employees. Some employee yells out "Not True" "You Lie". The screamer would be fired. I know, I know. IF a GOP guy does it...the very loud extremist right wing thinks its terrific. I suppose they should encourage their kids to yell in school assemblies...and they should do the same to their bosses. They believe its terrific. Then they should suffer the consequences.
I'd have to agree with those against Joe, even though it is a stupid issue. This kind of childish behavior was never supposed to be a Republican trait. Whether he lied or not doesn't matter, there's a time and place for this kinda stuff.
In a government of, for and by the people, the people have a VOICE. Their voice is being heard. Class? How would you define class? Making the media circus, I mean, circuit and going on every liberal talk show and news program to promote lies? Real classy indeed! I prefer the voice of the people to one ignorant man hell bent on stripping the people of their voice. That my friends is class.
It says a lot about the pathetic state of the Republican party and how few reasonable people are left in that party that a total jackass fool like Joe Wilson would be seen as anything other than a jackass fool by his party. It's truly sad that there's only one viable party left in American politics because it gives the Democrats even more reason to slide to towards the right... Really the Democratic party is what the Republicans used to be (the party of corporate interests... as the Baucus health care bill makes clear) ... and the Republican party is now just ... so out of touch with reality and mainstream America that they are just not relevant.
The ignorant man stripping people of their voice is Obama??? You mean the man who was recently elected by a majority of the people is stripping the people of their voice??? HUH?
It's ok. They're safe calling Obama ignorant so long as nobody is mentioning Bush. This is America. And here even people with far less scholastic, literary, and political achievements can call someone who has excelled in all those categories ignorant or dumb and not be laughed at heartily. Same thing happened when Bush was in office. This is their safe place. Let them have it
So I understand you disagree with the president and his plans. How exactly is an elected president, who is working on the policies and plans that you disagree with, but millions do agree with, stripping people of their voice? You seem to have no trouble exercising your right to free speech, here, and I presume in real life. I have no idea if you stutter or not, why did you bring it up?
Not necessarily. I disagree with a great deal of specific items, and have a differing opinion about other items. Because he's only following through with one agenda for a select few, not a "majority". Ideas presented by those that disagree, or have differing opinions have been completely ignored. I consider it a privilege not a right. And talking about it in a insignificant internet forum is hardly going to do anything to further any cause. Because you did not understand me the first time. Its a saying. http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=Did I Stutter
Isn't that in contrast to the Constitutional idea that we give government its power, not the other way around?
Imagine if a Democratic politician had gone to other countries and blasted President Bush the way that Sarah Palin blasted Obama on foreign soil... The Republicans would be calling for their head! They'd be calling them a traitor. Where are the Republicans calling out Palin for speaking against the President on foreign soil? The hypocrisy of the right wing is just amazing to me.
