After having read through a tonne of pages written on the discrepancies in Wordtracker I have come through to a way of understanding two things: 1. What wordtracker does (and reports); and 2. What is the best way of using data-types offered by Wordtracker.com Please feel free to poke at my thought process and prove me wrong. What Wordtracker (WT) does: WT offers a chance to look at many dimensions of keywords using two independent tools: WT native database using metacrawlers AND Overture. Each one is independent and mutually exclusive of the other. While Overture results are NOT accurate representation of search-counts, they are better representation of the trends in the industry. Between "formal shoes" and "sports footwear" you would know which one is more popular .. ignore the numbers .. just draw the ratios between them. The trends are for 30-days immediately preceding your day of search. WT's native Databse (let's call it WTdb) represents analysis of just 2-3% of total searches. Such a small sample of data can, in no way, present accurate reports for a keyword in the whole keyword universe. But, one hopes their algorithm for predicting Daily Visitors in the Next 24 hours has some ingenuity and accuracy. So, how about using the 24-Hour Prediction count as the principal differentiator between different keywords? Will that be a good way to crunch and profitably use numbers given by Wordtracker.com? Extending the above thought procees, how is this as a step-by-step to best practices on using numbers presented by WTdb: Figures on Daily Prediction should be used as a better indicator than just looking at KEI, Count and Competition .. This should hold true when we talk about organic search engine ranking. For adwords, the best policy would be to : Cluster keywords into segments (of business focus) Validate their potential using overture stats Pick up keywords having good Daily Visitor Count prediction Run them through Adwords Sandbox to verify demand / supply / profit potential Once again, fine-tune segments for keywords Write good landing pages for each of the segments Create adwords ad-copy for each of the segments Launch and monitor adwords campaigns What say?
