getting listed in Google maps

Hi all,
One of my website is ranking good in SERPs its ranking on 4th position for one of my place specific keyword.
but when the page is loaded it is not displayed on top just because of long map listings.
I also registered in google local business center and my site got position 6 in map listings.

What is the criteria of ranking in Google maps? can anybody help.

 

its just random i think. 6 is pretty good though..

 

Although the position withing maps remains something of a mystery, it seems like being listed in local directories, or in directories for your local area play a big part. Other factors are being near the geographic center of the map and having a phone number with the right area code.

 

I strongly dissagree with the area code thing.

You need to be listed in yelp, urbanspoon,...that will help quite a bit

 

I also think same about the area code however the listing in local directories can play a role.

Any other suggestions?

 

Some says including the place/area on your content (also in title) will help too.

 

there is no logic behind to rank in google map, it come automatic.

 

your business location is more closely to have what you're looking for than a business that's closer.

 

There might be some technique for this can't anybody help.
