Can we build backlinks through directory submissions? How much a directory submission value in increasing site position in search engines?
i will have to disagree with the people here. i actually tested this out on some domains that i own. outside of business.com, botw.org, yahoo dir, and dmoz, u are wasting your money. these are the only 4 sites that are trusted and depending on your category passing link juice. business.com is a bit expensive at 300/year, but u get to choose your anchor text and it usually has good PR in the category u select. dmoz is tough to get into. botw.org cost 300, but its permanent. yahoo cost 300/year and it provides a lot of links because of the different country yahoo directories. i hope that helps
Ok, you got your 4 backlinks, now what? Your PR won't go more than 1, Your SERP will have you on page 10,000 What for you just spend $1,000? For PR1? WOW
rishi, Be listed in web directories is of very little help, because every web page has many external links.
There are posts in the site where people have listed many of the free directories as well as paid ones and actually list the PR value of each one. I can't remember the exact post but it's on this site. I'll see if i can find it and provide an update for you.
Do not excpect short term backlinks juice from directories (with few exeption), some of these directories even one with high PR on their home page prolly dont even have the page where your links are indexed. Having said that, you never know, some of these directories might become pretty good someday and even start taking paid submission only. So having your links in there early on is advantageous. The one that dont make it usually gone after the first year (no renew) which means the directories and your links are gone anyway. What have you got to loose.
Directory submission is still helpful way for getting good backlinks if they are done accurately with high PR.
