I found a great domain available with a .biz extension for my niche. My niche is business oriented and I want a to setup a blog with a forum. I've heard that your only supposed to run a real business when using .biz, so I'm wondering what the deal is. I do plan on selling memberships to gain access to the forum.
I've never heard of a rule where you -have- to run content based on a domain unless its an .edu or .gov or something. As far as I know, there are no restrictions on tld's like .info, .biz, .cc, .org, etc. Do a google search for site:.biz and you will quickly see there are forums, blogs, etc all using the .biz TLD.
On wikipedia it say "No prior restriction on registration, but registrations can be challenged if registrant is not a bona-fide commercial entity" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/.biz
I think you needn't worry about this.Lots of guys use .biz extension to build their own websites or blogs.I never hear that situation happens. Therefore,do what you want to do,and pay more attention to other things such as the promotion and optimization of your blog.Good luck.
Only time I see restrictions on *.tld's is when you get a country *.tld that can only be owned by a resident of said country. There's a couple of them out there but none come to mind right off.
Yes you can use it for other site than business site. AFAIK,there is no restriction on the usage of .biz domain unless you used it for illegal purposes.
.biz sounds like more into business related websites. but it has no restriction. it's fine if you want to use it for blog or forums. you better make sure that your visitor will visit the correct website (which is with .biz extension)
I don't see any issues with this. I have a business directory with a .biz TLD and it isn't strictly-speaking a business entity.
you shouldn't have any problems, but I would advise you stay away from godaddy. They sometimes steal good domains or disable them for random reasons.
