I have been thinking of changing domain name, and do a 301-redirect (permanent moved) for the entire site to the new domain name. I am wondering how Google (and other search engines) reacts to this? Also, all backlinks build will be lost correct (no more PR juice)?
301 redirect is the only way to go forward with domain change as google will pass pr to the new website, also links and ranking. That's the main idea of 301 redirect.
So there should be no problems doing this? (not looking at problems with database and on-page problems I might run into Thanks alot for your answer.
I use a 301 redirect and i haven't been penalized for it, but then again the site with the 301 redirect is only new .

Can a mod or admin please delete all the posts except for the first one, i only posted so many by mistake due to the forum having a database error so it must have duplicated my post, sorry!
301 redirect do transfer the PR to the new site/page but I saw Matt Cutts saying that there is no guarantee that all/any PR juice will always pass. So there is a possibility that you may lose some PR juice in this process. My suggestion will be to stay with the current domain if you have good ranking in SERPs and that, if the current name is not a big issue.
301 redirect more or less insures that everything is passed to the new domain. Have a look at www.etxcapital . co . uk, they used to be tradindex . com and now www. etxcapital. co. uk. They use 301 redirect and still have the same ranking and PR for the new site.
