It helps noobs visualize a backlink structure, but there are far better ways to do link schemes that produce better results for much less work.

It's easy.. web 2.0 properties linking to each other and linking to your money site..

Very easy to do and it does let you rank for many keywords quite quickly.

With that said you can create your OWN web 2.0 properties in the form of wordpress MU sites and point them to a money site.

I am sure that linkwheels are pretty good way to drive traffic and links. So what are other ways which are far better than this? I am desperate to know.

I guess the above two posts explain about the link wheel. About link wheel being good for SEO, yes they are. Simple (Closed) wheels can be detected by algorithms. Try to build a more complex link wheel to make the process appear more natural. This way you can get quality inbound links and your links wont get discounted.

Link wheels were really good a while ago, but now Google seems to ignore them. Try the horseshoe method.

By horseshoe method, do you mean the same thing as a linkwheel, but not closed? This is how I've always done it, since the old blogfarm days. But if you have enough sites in the ring, it shouldn't matter. (More than 4-5 I would think.)

it still works, but all link building should include a variety of different links from different C class ip so that the link building appears natural

According to the inventor of this method, he says 6 web2.0 properties shodl be linked together. Is it beneficial to have more, does that keep one 'under the radar' more? Basically, it is beneficial to have say 10 insted of 6?

    Thanks

Link wheels are complete and utter crap. And no, I have absolutely no compunction in saying that whatsoever. They fail to address anything important, or, for the sake of this discussion, relevant to the task at hand.

I am in a perpetual state of utter amazement that folks actually fall for this sort of thing in the services section. This is on par with "we submit your site to 5000 pr 5 directories" While accurate the home page of some unattended directory might be ok, the page with which your link is actually on is not indexed and will stay that way forever. This is because the site offers absolutely nothing to anyone. When is the last time you perused a directory to find something?

I could frankly go on about this for a week.

Don't believe the hype people. I do get a kick out of staring at some of nifty charts these nitwits come up with though.

Dreadfully long story short, don't waste money on fad related nonsense. Track down someone who actually understands the value of merit based, relevant and useful links. Its not rocket science, it just requires actual work.

Apparently my biological clock is 12 hours ahead of my physical location. Which means I'd probably miss the Bears game today if it wasn't for the fact that this is their bye week. :D
