Hey there, I know there's no magic bullet, but I've been reading a bit on linkwheels (mainly from the lemonarian), and they sound pretty effective. I've heard that using linkwheels to promote your site can get you penalized by Google, but let me ask this: Is it the logistics of the linkwheel itself (a series of web 2.0 props all linked to eachother and a central hub page), or is that most linkwheels are constructed using blackhat strategies? If I were to build, say a six spoke wheel, with all legitimate unique content, would I be penalized by Google like I would if I used a spinner and an autoblogger? Is there such thing as a white hat link wheel?
linkwheels have a giant flaw, they are interlinked, you can easily remedy to this by using the web 2.0 sites for links purposes but without interlinking them. if you don't interlink them, you should be fine (and you will not be penalized for links anyway, so here we are just talking about how to benefit from web 2.0 links)
Why do you consider linkwheels to be blackhat? You post valuable content on Web 2.0 properties, you get a link back. Looks white to me.
The problem with linkwheels is that in order to develop them properly, it takes a lot of time (i.e. creating unique, valuable content on each web 2.0 property and then building a few backlinks to each property). The shortcut is to create one article and spin it a few times. Now the content is not so valuable because it is spinned and is essentially a duplicate of another article with a few words changed around. Doing it the quicker way is probably grey hat.
so are you saying link an article to another article in a different directory.. then linking that to your site.. what is the benefit
This will not hurt your site if you do it or not. Links will not hurt you. However, you'll be wasting your time with the link wheel - because Google will throw it out.
I'd say not so much anymore, just my opinion. There are easier ways to get backlinks than building a bunch of 2.0's and linking them just to your site. The wheel aspect of it is to credit for the success, if you build it without interlinking it's a waste of time in my opinion.
I don't think its a waste of time as it can get you useful links. However, over reliance on just one method is always a bad idea and you should mix in the other ways of link building along with this one to get good results.
Thanks guys. I was looking to take my article marketing strategy to a different level, but I'm not even gonna screw with it if Google docks for the interlinking design. Speedguy, I like what you said about mixing it up...I get so caught up about new stuff (to me) when I read about it, that I forget to spread it out. Thanks again
whats the best way to do any article marketing.. I have posted on ezines.. but I would like to get it posted..
