If you watch this, you'll see he agrees exactly with what we have been saying for some time. There is no 'penalty', but the need for 'diversity in the results' means that duplicate content is pretty much useless in terms of earning SERPS rankings. As we've all been saying for some time.

Unless it's more google disinformation, of course. After all, they're famous for it.

Well Google scrapes the DMOZ directory and Google directory listings don't suffer this fate.

Google should follow its own beliefs and create unique and useful content.

when you set the rules, what YOU have to do is different from what you can force OTHERS to do.

i cant agree on duplicate content.
Take digg.com... you post a story excerpt to it , that its already on your site. Wouldnt google see that 160 words are the same on digg.com and the same on your site?

LOL, I think you forgot the "not" in your statement.

Anyways, everyone below #10 is being penalized for inferior SEO and/or
useless, valueless content. Not that they are without use or value, but
they have LESS use and LESS value than the top 10.

I remind my members all the time, the #1 spot gets over 40% of the
clicks and the #2 spot gets about 12%. The rest get very, very little.

If you want targeted traffic, you need to rank above the fold!

Getting there is the real trick.

Nothing new really. Dup content has always been dealt with using filters it's not a penalty.

It also scrapes websites for it's search results :)
