It's worth submitting but not worth the trouble of worrying about it if you don't get in, remember it can take months and months to get listed.
takes months - even years, content in various areas is irrelevant and many of the editors are pretty much corrupt - submit then...... forget it exists.
I do not think now DMOZ is that much effective. You need to Concentrate more on other Web 2.0 Elements rather then worrying about get listed in Dmoz. DMOZ's submission guidelines are very complicated and once you rejected from it there is no chance to listed back so better to submit in other directories. There are thousands and thousands directories which can help in ranking.
Only if you don't read the guidelines , its complicated and thats why so many sites don't get listed. sites that are rejected are the ones that don't read or meet the guidelines. Its worth it to submit but I would focus more on its content then anything else.
It can help your SERP dramatically. However getting into DMOZ is impossible for me. Most probably they will never approve any of your sites too. So, don't waste your time with DMOZ.
Some categories in DMoz got active moderators, some got lazy bums. My webmaster forum got indexed there in a few months. However my classified ads site did not get indexed in 3 years!
Its worth submitting there but it is said that you have to become an editor before submitting your website to dmoz. Off course it is a giant directory from where google fetch results. But its not only the place. Submitting in it will give you benefit but it doesn't mean that your site will rank in serps.
Here is the most importanat fact, there are lots of sites out there that use the google/dmoz directory on their site so by getting listed you ae actually getting 100's of backlinks, not the highest quality but it continues to build, much like doing an article distribution. Most of the mods at dmoz are complete tools and I say that because I have been witness to lots of high profile sites not being accepted that are big brand names, its makes no sense apart from the mods being secret industry figures, but lots has changed in the last few years and I am happy to see that the pedestal dmoz was once on is now gone. The mods are the only ones to blame for that, as the website owners have turned their backs on them when they could have embraced them. Google is on the same path, most website owners use google because it is where the traffic is, but if it were to change there would be no loyalty. google needs better support for its customers the website owners. Dont forget theri business is made up of our websites, without that they are nothing. People Power!
If you get listed then that is good, but unfortunately, I think getting listed in Dmoz is quite a difficult thing. I submitted sites few years back and got no reply about what happened to my submission.
