Good.. let me explain it in a clearer form.. The stoning is the Islamic punishment for adultery. It is not "barbaric" as some people may claim. Firstly let me clarify that the punishment for extramarital sex in Islam has to ways; stoning applies to a married person and 100 lashes applies to an unmarried person. However the legal requirements needed to prove that extramarital sex even occurred make it nearly impossible to obtain a conviction. For example to even prove adultery in court, requires 4 (FOUR) eye-witnesses of good character who saw the penetration of one sexual member into another. Not only is it very unlikely to find four men of good character who watch such an act together, if less than 4 witnesses are produced, the witnesses themselves will receive 80 lashes. As a result, enforcing any punishment for extramarital sex is nearly impossible. Therefore as a punishment, stoning is not scary at all, because it can hardly ever be enforced. It's an effective deterrent, because no Muslim would want to DESERVE such a punishment in the sight of God. It is important to point out that if a man an a women truly value each other, they should respect their partner enough to know that they are worth the commitment of marriage first and faithfulness later. So now in order to avoid being stoned for adultery: 1) Be faithful to your spouse 2) Do not let 4 men of good character witness your act of adultery from specific angles 3) Don't confess adultery 4 times In conclusion the only people who can easily be punished by stoning, are those who commit adultery in public places. Thus people who attack Islam on the issue of stoning appear to be supporters of committing adultery in public places.
Thanks for clarifying when you think it is okay to stone a woman. Have you ever got to participate in a stoning? I'd imagine it is quite an event. In the United States, people used to send postcards of the hangings*. Do they make postcards or other such mementos of stonings? *(not to be confused with the excellent Grateful Dead album of Dylan covers by the same name)
Well stoning is for both male & female. Even if there's any stoning, the person conditions is also need to be taken into consideration.. ie health etc. postcards? Not that I know off, but.. that would be great actually, if it could helps to control of such uncontrollable adultery practice now a days.
I cannot believe it's 2009 and I'm seeing these words in print. I'll bite. The 4 witnesses - these are male witnesses, yes? Any slight possibility of collusion, here - say, a "wilful" - what certain quarters used to call "uppity" - a "wilful wife," who doesn't exactly dig being married to hubby any longer. Any slight chance his pals can get together and "agree," they say they saw her banging someone? And because of it, she's to be tortured, until dead? Care to find a justification? The young girls that have been put to death - what exactly has been the nature of the "good character" witnesses who have brought her death? And to the question on whether I'd prefer a society that allowed open adultery, or, uh, bashing a human being to a slow, painful death, ensured by "stones that would not kill immediately," gee, a toughie...can I think on that? Can I also ask for front row tickets to witch burnings, then answer?
I find it to be a fascinating remnant of history. A time when my own country was much more uncivilized and barbaric. I think most people in the West uniformly agree that notion of having postcards from a hanging is pretty disgusting. I wasn't trying to make a suggestion. It saddens me that you took what I was showing as an example of bad US behavior and are taking it as a suggestion how to make what it already happening in your culture worse.
I think people should be allowed to have sex in public and if anything, they should be rewarded for saving internet porn bandwidth. Who's with me?
sorry, not u i live in Muslim country, they talk a lot like : No drug. No Alcohol No Corruption No Sex before married No Gambling. No Lie. and more But .... the fact is .................................................................. (fill in the blank)
Ah yes... Hypocrits... You find them in most (if not all) religious folks because the rules they must live by ask to be broken. It is like a sign that says "Wet Paint". What does a normal average person? They have to touch it of course. Now substitute wet paint with hot wife
This is awful! Can this still be considered "modernity"? I understand that some cultures may be more "indulgent" toward adultery than others...But, stoning to death? And why women happen to be victims in most cases? What about men that commit adultery?
Let say this.... The majority of ACEH citizens are muslim... By the democracy way, they choose to implement sharia law in their province... (including some strict punishment, such as... errgghhh.... stoned to death)... So what? That's demoocracy. If you want to argue this, then you all probably do not believe in democracy way Btw, ACEH is only small part in Indonesia. They only have 4,6 million people in the whole province. Indonesia as a country have more than 220 million citizen. So? Come on... Don't worry about my country. Mostly part of Indonesia are really friendly place for everyone. Thus, the boss of suicidal bomber has just been shoot by indonesian's police this morning *Thanks god I live in bandung... thousand miles away from aceh... *
Aceh is the westernmost and most religious province in Indonesia. They have special autonomy and full rights to implement their democracy rights. Many former rebels are in the local parliament even the governor is a former rebel official. So this law is formed by former rebels, not indonesian government, Acehnese is only about 5 millions from 220 million indonesians. if they want stoning, well that's the democracy. But I heard there are many oppositions on this law among acehnese themselves
cool ... u just sound like your country minister, "it just small percent or amount involve, so no worry",Typical mindset from South East Asia, why can't educate and make it as low as possible ? Moral and education is what they need, democracy shouldn't be use as excuse for those who educated ....
this is the mind set they had, that why a forum and post like this, is helping them but choice on them ......
I think you're typical westerner who generalize everything. Acehnese is just 5 millions from 220 millions indonesians. Aceh government is made up from former rebels, they have special autonomy. If we restrain them, the world will condemn us, and accuse indonesian for not being democratic toward acehnese. If you want to blame, blame those rebels.....not the rest 215 millions indonesians. make some researches before accusing, or you'll look pretty much like a typical ignorant westerner.
i don't think he blaming the rest 215 millions Indonesia (u r the one who blame and you think they are), he just pointed out the problem, issue and bla .... By the way i love your mind set, IS JUST 5 MILLIONS FROM 220 MILLIONS INDONESIANS. using the word "westerner" means you are accusing all of them or ? did you make your research before accuse ? when you trying to said/write something, please make sure don't repeat by your self ...
Moral, huh? Ooops... Pardon me.... But, another south-east asian countries are not a copycat country like yours (Malaysia). *counting hundreds malaysian who did illegal logging in my country land | counting how many indonesian traditional music, balinese dance, food, etc that have been stolen and now globally recognized as your country's culture* Last month, I had a meeting with one of US embassy representative here in Indonesia. He talked a lot about "democracy, democracy, and democracy". How come he said democracy to another nation, while one of his country's people like you questioning the democracy itself? FYI, being a democratic country for so long, US only have one different race as a president. And it happen in 21 century. Democracy in Indonesia started since our Independence day (1945), an we have so many different people running this country. In our muslim majority country, even WOMAN and CHRISTIAN have became a president and prime minister. How about yours? Is there woman, muslim, hispanic, indian or another minority race/belief elected for your country's leader? Regarding sharia law in Aceh, however it will not happen in another part of Indonesia. But we appreciate their "clearly legal and democratic" choice. Peace
I guess it doesn't feel good to be generalized..... So let's stop generalizing one another....what I did is just a reaction, I know many smart and open-minded westerners
Never say never. Here is an omninous warning from WWII. Replace type of people (i.e. communists, socialists) with a province in your country.
