Most mlm companies are illegal in most part of the world. If you want to join an mlm company, make sure they have quality product and honest people in your uplink. I havent found any marketing guy more deceptive then the mlm guys. Sad, but true :)
    Regards,
    Richie.

Multi-level marketing is a polite word for what is almost a Ponzi scheme. You'll avoid them, if you have any business sense at all.

Difficult to imagine that such opinionated, ill-informed, prejudiced nonsense as this would be found here. In most countries of the world MLM is totally legal, the companies are regulated by government departments or part of the countries' commercial administrations and many are members of the Direct Selling Association.

Some of the bigger, more successful, better established MLM companies have been trading worldwide for many decades and have several million distributors. Hard to believe that they've all been breaking the law so openly for so long! :D

    1. I didn't say that MLM is illegal, just that it's "almost" a Ponzi scheme.

    2. I have many friends who are among the "several million distributors" that you speak of. Not a one of them is making much money on it, but they go to all the conferences and get all fired up by the motivational speakers, then come home to keep soldiering on in their MLM for very little return.

    3. I have a little understanding of the business world — MBA degree, former president of two corporations. MLM as a business practice makes sense only for the fortunate few who are "upline" of the many suckers working "downline" for peanuts.

Thanks :D I kept 'most' as the word. Dont try to defend your company this bad, I know it hurts to be a part of one and hear against it. I have yet to find an mlm company whose uplink is not deceptive.

And even the U.S. Gov has the same opinionated, prejudiced and ill-informed opinion. :D Check there site. http://www.sec.gov/answers/pyramid.htm

    I agree.

Sure, you can make some cash.
But just like any other business you have to work your tail off because sooner or later you are going to run out of friends and family to recruit.

No one is saying its a lie. Network marketing works with the concept of recruiting friends and family members. Selling your relationship with them for a profit. To do a thing like this one has to be from a very low concious level as a person, who's ready to tradeoff money for relations. Do you need to bend your ethics so low for money? :(
Be creative and money would be flowing in your life from creating genuine value for people. :)

    Regards,
    Richie.

MLM isn't necessarily a scam or illegal. However the ones that are legal often involves selling products at much overinflated prices of the upline that has to be paid.

It's possible to make a very decent living off of it. A friend of my mom's makes close to a quarter million a year with that Amway / Quixtar company. But she practically nags everyone she meets to join under her. She takes them out to lunch and trys to tell them how great it is and they could be making all this money like her too.

Not something I like to do but to each his own I guess.

Which one are you most excited about? Go with your first answer and don't try to second guess yourself. MLM's are good for the "right" people. It's not for everyone, and what business is?

That's why they make chocolate and vanilla, so everyone gets to choose.

I have plenty of experience with MLM companies.

Some are illegal and will eventually get shut down, but some are legitimate. However, being legitimate does not mean that they are good companies. You CAN make a lot of money with them, but you need to have a really cold personality, and you need to be able to sell questionable or mediocre overpriced products without thinking twice about it.

I've created a definition, over my experience, that distinguishes between pyramid schemes and true MLM companies. This definition is just mine, and is not official in any way: "The difference is in what the company is trying to sell you. Are they trying to sell you a product or service? Or, are they trying to sell you the opportunity to make a lot of money? In the case of the former, it is a legitimate company. In the case of the latter, it is a pyramid scheme, whether it is legal or not."

    I hope this helps.

Still, though, even the best MLMs, in my opinion, are still bad, unstructured business. Start a real company.
