Mac OSX and Linux (more specific, ubuntu) are the most popular operating systems. Mac is more user-friendly, linux is for advanced users. Windows is in the middle.

For home users, Mac would be the next best choice. Otherwise, Linux is also good.

Ubuntu. However you need to emulate Dreamweaver or that Adobe products if you are using them.

Mac locks you in into using Apple's hardware. If you are not using Windows, then the next best thing would be a flavor of linux, beos perhaps.

Go for a Mac, if you're a designer/developer. It really is the best thing out for us, if you're a normal internet user, you could try Ubuntu 9. It supports debian packages so, it's getting really close to Windows now.

Mac OS, as some hardware manufacturers don't even make drivers for Linux.

Honestly speaking there is no alternative unless you consider yourself technically inclined enough to score a 7 on 10.
I've friends who bought Mac Book Pros, and now just boot into XP with bootcamp, and linux notebooks are sold solely by users who wish to save Vista costs, since they'd be installing XP at some point.

All depends on what type of power user you are.

Wanna learn and save bucks -> Linux

Wanna just switch to another OS -> MacOS

If you are looking for a free Windows alternative ,then go for Linux . The other one Mac OS is paid as well as it require additional hardware to run .
