$Million Dollar Question On Hosting

Discussion in 'Databases' started by GameVerdict, Sep 15, 2009.

I've had a number of sites for a number of years. I always use MYSQL, but one thing i don't understand is why can i only get 100MB databases. My first will be filled up in one year and the site is only one year old? I don't want to delete half my content.

I've never seen an offer to upgrade over 100MB and my hosting company supposed to be the biggest in Europe. (Its One & One). What can i do?

    Thanks.

You would have to ask them. As I understand it though, they run their MySQL databases on separate servers and have to allocate space usage for all users and accounts.

Not sure what software you're running. Would be helpful if you let us know. I know with most blogging platforms like MT and *shudder* Wordpress, they keep the comments and trackbacks marked as spam in their database until you actually go in and clear them out. If this is what you're running, you may want to check on that.

100 megs is a lot of data. You could fit War and Piece in there at least 15 times over.

Another thing to check is to see if you can optimize the database. Not sure if you can do that over at 1&1 or what level of access you have to the databases. I know when you don't run an optimization for a while, you get a lot of wasted space.

edit: Some quick googleing shows an optimize script may come with the software. Have you tried that?

Try hostgater. As far as I know they don't have a limit on the database.

There should not be such database size limit if you are using MySQL though we can understand it if you are using MSSQL databases but surely not on MySQL.. It's time to change your webhost ;)

I would be looking for a different host or atleast an upgrade from your host now, 100MB for database storage doesn't go very far over time.

I use hostgator too. I dont believe they have a limit on the DB size, or if they do its bigger than 100mb.
