I'm young and working on getting a Master's of Business Administration and a Bacholer's of Applied Science in web development than I hope to join the PeaceCorps. However I was noit careful who I was with and was with the wrong people at the wrong time (no details) Now I'm facing 25 years in prison and this is a felony charge. It's unlikely that I'll get a full 25 years but very likely I would get a couple years. :S How hard is it to get a job as a felon? How much would this hold me back? I have a preliminary hearing on September 11th so I really hope I'm okay but idk, in some ways it looks bad for me while in others it looks like it *might* not make it through the hearing and actualy going to court. Anyhow for anyone that forgot my question, how hard is it to get a good job as a felon?
Peace Corps is probably not going to accept you. Big companies probably wont touch you. Small places would be more willing to give you an opportunity. I dont know... Good luck.
I would: start back to school this fall and try to develop a stellar records in my classes. change the set of friends with whom I associate. and get a great lawyer.
With one major dent in your record, all you can do is work had to fill the rest of your CV with high quality achievements.
I am sorry to hear what has happened to you. The best thing you can do is continue to show stellar performance in all that you do. That way when you go to court or to trial or whatever you may be doing, you have character witness on your behalf. Hope all works out well.
i thought convicted felons werent allowed to sit the bar or something. maybe thats just in american movies etc.
Sometimes good comes out of bad. Not sure what it is that you allegedly did, but may the judge and jury be wise and merciful within their decision - Mike
I hope everything works out for you. I'm kinda curious what the felony is though 8) I'm guessing something drug related ? Maybe your friend had a couple of kilos of weed on him ?
Exactly, you seem to have realised you've come to a turning point and decided to change your life around. If you can get that across to the judge then he's probably going to look more leniently on you.
Actualy I was newly 18 when it all started and I was being accused of doing stuff with a 15 year old girl. I might as well say it, afterall not like telling you makes much of a negative effect and perhaps you could help me some. I am being accused of having oral sex with her (not against her will but considered sexual abuse) I had been hanging out with people known for being partiers while at the same time I was around a lot of under-aged girls (not a good mix as it does look bad)
Did you do it? You're in some shaky water. But if you decide to admit you did it try to get her to testify it was concensual (Spelling?).
If you're skillful at something, after having served your days, you will be alright with working. This is age of globalization dude. You can be your own boss working on your own schedule. You can hire a group of elite developers and rebuild your image. Or you can just skill out some innovations like BitTorrent, Skype, or Milliondollarhomepage.com. Big companies will beg you doggedly.
LOL. Only in America. No looking at subtleties. Your legal system is so fucked up I dont even know where to start. The rest of the world is laughing at you. Haha.
