    Hi,

Do you think it still usefull to do directory submissions for SEO purposes?

In Google webmaster tools I don't see many links from directories anymore.

What is now the best method?

    Thanks!

I still submit to directories, but have become very selective. Most just don't seem to be worth the effort. In fact I wonder if some cause more harm than good.

Lately mattcuts has said it is useful. But not all directories will help you in increasing serps.
Try to build quality website with quality liniks from directory. This will help you in long run.

use auto directory submission to submit your site to unknown spam directories will only damage your site. Choose quality manual selected directories is the key.

A link is a link, and an anchored link is not a thing that could be discarded as pointless.

Directory links are not the greatest one ever possible, but not that worse than say social bookmarking links.

I suggest submitting to the major ones, try and pick the top 20? Spend some time submitting to those and see if you notice a difference. If you do then it may be worth submitting to the smaller directories as well. I do believe other methods can be more effective though. e.g. articles, bookmarking, blogging comments.

Directories are ALWAYS going to be useful, as mentioned above:

    1) high PR ones like DMOZ, etc.

    2) in all others, whenever possible pick relevant categories (mine is "Shopping -> Weddings") that are 1-2 clicks from main page. (the closer to main page, the more PR gets passed)

    3) DO NOT put your link in directories with bad neighborhoods (spam, porn, etc) in your category. (For example-- you will see "XYZ" or "miscellaneous" categories in many directories....these are a waste of time, IMO)

No backlinks hurts, if it was so then we all be submitting our competitors websites instead.

    Keep submitting and submitting ...

I consider submitting to directory is waste
    for 1000 directory submission only
    50 will be active directory
in that only 20will reject your submission
within the 30approved only google consider 3link
