what chrcascai said. getting 1k quality hits to a site in one day is impossible. several traffic exchange scripts can boost your traffic instantly, but that mostly would be garbage uproductive hits...
did they ask you to give them the stars from the sky, too That's a ridiculous request. It's up to you to explain what SEO is to them, and how the internet works. Also, make sure you are not guaranteeing anything because there are no guarantees in SEO.
I have to agree with what everyone else is saying regarding going from 0 visitors to 1000+ overnight is next to impossible. Regardless, what your client should focus on are visitors who are potential customers. Having a ton of traffic is great but I would say it is better to have "quality" visitors (visitors who are potential buyers) over "quantity" visitors (visitors who visit the site due to coming across it on a social networking site, for example).

I would say it's impossible because if you simply run an extensive PPC campaign you can easily acquire 1000 clicks in a day. However, your job as an SEO is to build traffic steadily. There's more info on the board on doing that than you can shake a stick at, but I understand the amount of info can be daunting. There are also other methods to rapidly increase traffic, for example there are some of my clients whose websites play off of trends. So by using my "trending methods" I can bring about 3-5k visitors to them that week. They can then use the profit from the conversions and invest into an extensive and hopefully profitable PPC campaign. You have to use various methods to springboard onto the next.
