I have problems trying to set the setting for my website to Display URLs as www.mydomain.com

Under Settings - Preferred domain in Google Webmaster Tools: It keep stating "Part of the process of setting a preferred domain is to verify that you own http://mydomains.com/. Please verify http://mydomains.com/."

I have no problems doing the setting for "www" for my first 2 websites, but recently i started to have problems doing this settings for my new 4 websites...is there anything wrong with google webmaster tools or is it there is a change of new settings by google? Kindly help me. Thanks.

Have you verified the domain like all other domains normally have to be verified first?

Are you using a blog? wordpress?
Change the name to without www first then submit the Google verifying code.
Once verified change to www. Hope this will help

I am using a website builder to construct my website.

So you mean I need to submit a sitemap without www to google webmaster tools and then verify the code again by uploading the verification code to my server again? But i do not understand by "Once verified change to www"...you mean change where? I do not get it. Need you to further elaborate more explicitly...thanks...

And will submitting the sitemap again affect my google indexing and pagerank?

    Thanks.

Not to worry, set up a 301 redirect to transparently connect http:domain.com to http://www.mydomain.com.

I have described how to do this in detail in this blog entry (for Apache servers)

    http://webdesign-ri.com/web_site_design_and_SEO_blog/web-site-management/using-an-apache-server-for-canonical-redirects/

    Hope this helps.

Thanks for the help. For your info, I have already created a .htaccess file to redirect the "without www" url to "with www" url. But inside google webmaster tools, they still do not recognize my settings...how come? Or this is not a problem since i already created a .htaccess file in my server?

In Google webmaster tools you may have to set up two sites one as http://www.domain.com and http://domain.com because they are each considered different sites.

Just add your domain once more from the dashboard in webmaster tools without www and it will be verified itself since you have verified using www

Delete this domain, then add and verify once again. I have the same problem and it helped me.
