Google Caffeine is just a buzz for Google to sell more stocks. They just want to move the attention from Bing onto them. It might be faster, big deal. They just added more servers/faster servers and implemented more caching. I do not think that 0.1 seconds faster makes much of a difference when doing a search. I bet you can wait that 0.1 second.
That too, who does anything without creating a "buzz" these days. But all in all, Google is not Paris Hilton, It has the most talanted programmers that get paid for their ideas and work. Caffeine is NOT a publicity stunt! Google needs feedback from us webmasters and they would actually listen to bright suggestions! that is why they show their future projects before activating them!
Nobody is denying their talent, however, with this update they have not broken any barriers of Web search nor did they implement any new features besides moving a few websites up and down the SERPs which they do every day by the way.
russianzio, but I don't use Article dump directories. I've just created articles about new flash games on my sites and put backlinks from that. Moreover, I haven't used this method since last spring..
There could be 10k other reasons for your penalty if it is one. Your site needs a thorough study by an SEO expert, better by a Google guy like Matt You have 1 million other competitors on flash games that deserve attention too. 5k daily visitors has to be brought by some juicy keyword. They gave you some time to prove you can get better. Google gave you devoted returning visitors. Gaming sites have this tandency of ranking high for some time and as you get your return visits Google would move on to appreciate someone else. Huge gaming sites stay relatively untouched though, they rank high as usual. Originality, Quality and usability and a million of other factors make you stay aloaft for gaming niche!
russianzio, maybe you are right... I've got only one way of resolving this problem now - it is: to wait..
Seems like i am ranking a lot better in the sandbox.google.com url, still not as good as it used to be back in the days but still a lot better from current index which is really depressing.
I have talked to alot of people, many of which used to be very involved here on DP that are experiencing the same, myself being one of them.
Ohh yeah This update is a bit too frustrating we are working on some keywords(payday loans) for an year or more suddenly we they are moving like hell, hope it goes well we just we like how google likes a website to be
cache dates are actually a bad indicator of index dates. you can have a page for which the cache is ten days old, but the indexed version will be much newer. this is easy to tell. say the cache for your front page is really old. but internal pages added to the front page will have been indexed and show up in the serps. yet the cache will continue to be old for several more days. cache date does NOT equal index date.
Something to ponder.... Taken from WMW thread "The Caffeine INFRASTRUCTURE is already live. How do I know?! Cause I've tested it. An INFRASTRUCTURE change does NOT affect SERPS per se. To OVER simplify what the INFRASTRUCTURE does - how quickly pages get crawled, updated, and ranked. --------- The Caffeine ALGO UPDATE is what people are seeing on sandbox.goog. I really don't care WHAT a person CALLS it. I've called it the "long national nightmare update" as no one seemed to want to "officially" give it a name as THIS board has had the privilege of doing in past updates. Calling it the "Caffeine UPDATE" is as good a name as any. But it is OBVIOUSLY a different ALGO is on sandbox.goog than goog.com. THAT's why the SERP results are slightly different. An UPDATE doesn't have to be a huge cataclysmic shift. Sometimes it is, sometimes it isn't. But it's obvious TO ME, the RANKING ALGO on sandbox.goog. IS different than what's currently running on goog.com If one wants or needs Goog Employee #1, #2, or #3 to "officially" tell one this, then that person is the first person I would tell to STOP visiting SEO boards for 3 months, get your databases together, and then one will see how FUD-dy the information one receives from Goog PR is. As always, I originally WARNED about what's was going on from MY OPINION. It's up to you to TEST whether I or anyone else is closer to the truth or not. Waiting for Goog to say "this or that" is a recipe for nights of restless sleep, -950 penalties, yo-yo issues, and slowly losing rankings over time. -------------------- So again, what's showing on sandbox.goog. is a different ALGO than what's on Goog.com. That's an UPDATE. and has little to nothing to do with Caffeine the INFRASTRUCTURE change(that's already been implemented) Take it or leave it, but one would be wise to TEST my theory as it's going to affect people greatly if they are "searching" for what changed AFTER the fact instead of NOW, when one can more easily see it. " So what I am seeing is that it is possible that indeed the Caffeine infastructure may be in place. (Possibly) however there may be an algo update to follow. This makes sense but is it the case? Thought this should be placed on the record here. I am interested to see what others are thinking on this.
Your PR wont show up unless your site is not yet indexed... And I think you need a lot of effort before you could see success in your site.
Okay another update. After following posts on wmw as well as others and talking to other seo's I believe that the caffeine infastructure is now in place. The Caffeine test DC will continue to be a test DC and may or may not be a reflection of future serps. The future will tell if I am wrong but this all makes sense. Also yesterday when I had a change I made to a page make a difference within a few hours that is caffeine infastrucure. Here is some quotes from other forums. "1. The new infrastructure is live and that is what we are seeing on google.com. 2. www2.sandbox is also on the new infrastructure but has test changes to the algo on it. Or certainly has a somewhat different algorithm on it. I'm not convinced that this is a vision of the future though now that the penny has dropped (in my tiny brain) re 1. above. 3. Changes to pages, I assume on heavily spidered sites, are seen in the index within 1 to 24 hours. If we accept that the infrastructure is live then we can move the discussion on to algo changes on the new infrastructure and how we can use the instant response to tweak pages and perhaps identify dangers in doing this. Will tinkering cause a penalty?" "Its not just a new file system it is a new infrastructure which includes a new file system. It is what they do with it that is important. It could be argued that previously googlebot brought back stuff over time and google sat on it, it was incorporated into a non live index and periodically the index was churned, eventually the the system decided that the mix was right and the data was pushed out to the data centres and went live. With the new infrastructure as googlebot brings back its spiderings they are added into the live data. You could postulate that there is now only live data and no update and push system."
In simple English: "Caffeine" has not fully rolled out yet. some of its aspects are filtering into the current version of Google, but its not the same algo YET.
It looks like it is on its way though and will be here in full over the next few days. I hope, would prefer a quick release rather than a slow and painful wait.
A algorithm change for SERPs is a lot harder to implement then, let's say, sending a bot to sites more frequently. The change in the algo will happen this month (should happen at least). Remember, these days many sites are ranking for competitive kw using nothing but blackhat: comment spam, 0 pixel images (like they are hacking and inserting 0 pixel image and title linking to it), hidden link spam (hackers insert links only visible to google, text only version), and so on. Hopefully, real seo and legitimate related sites will play into this algo.
We must remember caffeine is not an Algo update. the Algo Update we are seeing is something else (probably related to caffeine) The caffeine is a major infastructure change. as quoted from Matt Cutts below. "Q: It doesn’t look any different to me? A: The Caffeine update isn’t about making some UI changes here or there. Currently, even power users won’t notice much of a difference at all. This update is primarily under the hood: we’re rewriting the foundation of some of our infrastructure. But some of the search results do change, so we wanted to open up a preview so that power searchers and web developers could give us feedback." So with that said it seems that The Infastructure part of Caffeine is live. The algo update that we are all starting to see slowly rollout is another issue. As one person said " you can call it what you want" The Caffeine Algo update seems like a good name for now. Either way there is definately a change happening in the serps for the last couple of days. The algo results on the test DC are starting to flow to other data centers. Report what changes you are seeing
Okay I have been watching big swings since Monday Morning. It appears there is a rollout happening with the Algo changes. I would say that my traffic has increase 500 % and is gaining by the minute. The site I am watching is 6 years old. Some key points to mention is that I am seeing certain keywords from yesterday that started on a few data centers now spreading across all data cenhters. What started out as a slow rollout late sunday night is starting to gain speed. I would say that once this all settles by the end of the week, the caffeine DC will match Google.com. Please report any changes on this thread so there is a record of this update.
