Can someone who is kind enough list the mods I would need to make a phpbb forum almost like a vB forum? I PHPBB has many mods, so there isnt anything vB has that phpbb shouldn't be able to do through mods.

    Here's a few...the ones with * are the ones I consider important ;)

Category Hierachy (lets you have subforums)*
    Reputation mod
    Kinda like the reputation mod
Report Posts* (beta, I honestly haven't tried it)
    Attachment Mod*
    Profile Control Panel
    Moderator Control Panel*
If you want WYSIWYG editor, there are a few in development...I used HotEditor but converting to VB was a nightmare...left a LOT of mess that i had to cleanup..
Oh Gosh there are soooo many mods...to make it like vb...you just have to choose which ones are important to you and also make sure your pages load up pretty fast....a lot of modding the viewtopic can be a nightmare speed wise...

I don't think there is a subscription mod yet...(oh actually there apparently is one...but i haven't tried it.I believe it is still in Beta and most off it has not been released at phpbb.com)

Modding a modded phpbb is also kinda hard...the first mod you should install however is Category Hierachy (IMO...) just get the premodded zip and upload it..

----> phpbb3 is coming out soon with a lot of vb features already in there..
you might want to wait for that? Here's the features list

For Categories Hierarchy, I'd say you only need it if you want more than just sub-forums. There are a lot of mods that are allowing you to use one level of sub-forum in a rather simpler manner such as simple sub forum ( http://www.phpbbstyles.com/viewtopic.php?t=5553 ) . And since you want to mod your board, it may be easier without CH for some.

For the SEO part, please check this : http://boards.phpbb-seo.com/phpbb-seo-toolkit/phpbb-seo-mod-rewrites-vt66.html

If you really want vB buy vB and save yourself the frustration and time. Trust me on that one. Also as suggested before phpbb3 is coming out soon and looks to give vB a run for the money!

If you want a free script that is more like VBulletin, I would recommend mybb. I have not used it extensively, but setting it up and playing around with it, it is very similar to VBulletin in a lot of ways.

True...I haven't tried the newer mods at all...but CH does seem to have great support...but yeah...the cool thing about CH is perhaps the group permissions and the new admin CP layout...however, there are still bugs there and I wish adding permissions was easier...

Exactly....however though, having tried the beta, it's still faar from vb honestly. It's a lot better than phpbb2 but still a long way to go..

Been hearing a lot of cool things about mybb...think I'll have to download it and play around with a test board ;)

Getting the mods is one thing - making your phpbb as secure as vb is another thing entirely.

Frankly, I wouldn't touch phpbb with a barge pole.
