There are major drawbacks in owning a blogger blog. 1. You don`t own it. 2.It`s just a subdomain 3.If you want to run a legitimate business,nobody will take you serious. A blogger blog can be used for SEO. But I would not invest too much work in it, as google might decide they do not like it and it can be gone instantly without warning.
I can say that blogger blog has a lot better SEO than a normal static site. When you write a post in blog, it will indexed by google in minutes. Where as when you write a page in normal website, you cannot expect the same. Blogger effectively links all your pages with one another, but you can always expect some broken links in a website if not maintained well. You have easy commenting and back linking facilities in blogger. Above all, your database may not be safe anywhere else more than where it is for blogspot. If you want to update your website for new features, you should work hard. But for blogger, there are engineers working hard for you to add new features.
all what above said is correct about blog, it has upper hand when it comes of Pagerank over any other subdomains (for google search) but .com domains are always a better and reliable option when it comes of stable business. yes a good thing that can be done to combine both is using your own domain name with blogger. but even in this case its good only until google is with blogger. hope it helps.
Many people suggest to buy their own site instead of getting a free subdomain at blogger or any other site. Policies change so you never know what the future of your free subdomain is. You do not own the free site and when you will build backlinks, they will be for this free subdomain. Many sites where one can get a free subdomain/subfolder: they close, making your backlinks to go to waste. At such sites, there are not many options like Cpanel, editing .htaccess etc.
Blogger is good but as many people here has said, its nothing reliable and its not really yours, so better to build something more stable. Use blogger to drive traffic to your own site.
I agree with you.. When you do a blog using Blogger its just about the subdomain... The best idea you should do is start with your own domain .
I would suggest installing your own blog software such as WordPress. It's simple, and easy. Owning your own domain is really fun too! By the end of the day when all of that work is done, you feel more like you have accomplished something as opposed to using a service like blogger.
Yeah, using independent blog is much safer, comparatively, if you wanna use it for business. If you are a blogger user, you have to adide by the rules set by Google. Of course, the cost is much lower by using blogger.
Plus, WordPress has some really great plugins for SEO and more. Right out of the box, with a little small tweak in the settings, you can make your blog pretty Search Engine Friendly. Not to mention you can install updates automatically for both WordPress and plugins and themes.
