my host hasn't been the best, had a few issues with downtime lasting no longer then 10 Min's.. but today b4 class at 7 30 am i check my sites, and all down.. including my client.. now its 1 pm and they are still all down not to mention my clients sites are down... I actually lost a client this time because they, like myself, can't afford downtime.. I finally got a email from a support ticket saying they are having network issues.. but its always funny to me that their main site has never had an issue with being down but my sites have had several downtimes... who else has had a horrible host I think I'm going to try asmallorange.com ppl seem to speak highly of them.. I hate changing host it's such a pain </rant>
it is a pain! and nothing is more frustrating because you are left helpless... want a dead on great host, try oxeo.com. kick butt host, kick butt support... I also hear dreamhost.com is good too good luck, i hope you get your stuff back online asap
Yup some hosts can be really bad, downtime all the time saying that it was just that time... I had that experience with one hosting but now I don't have problems anymore at www.maxiehost.com have been there since november 99.89% very qulity + very cheap
I was on shared hosting for a few years and finally got fed up with it. I went dedicated for all my needs and I haven't looked back. The only downtime I've ever had with this host (LiquidWeb) was for an hour when lightening struck the datacenter and now they're going to do a kernel recompile for security fixes. They've been an AWESOME host and I highly recommend them for shared and dedicated hosting. Sorry to hear of your troubles, that's one thing that really bugs me about shared hosting providers.
Lots of crappy hosts, yea. If you find a good one, stick with them. But, remember, every host has problems. You can tell the good from the bad more from how they handle the problems rather than if they have a problem. But also realize, some hosts are nothing more than a teenager working out of a bedroom in his parent's house. But, some of the big ones suck too.
The thing about bad hosts... lets just hope they are teenagers/young adults just trying to break into the business and hopefully they are learning from mistakes. Everyone has a hard time starting. Not to try and make bad hosts sound good (cause i have had my share of bad ones and i know its frustrating, but if possible i try and give them a second chance).
Yup, shifting houses are easier than shifting hosts. You can go ahead with ASO, i have 3 accounts with them and i am satisfied.
Managed or non-managed ded sevrer though? alot of people here don't have the skills to run a server, so would need to go with a managed ded server which can be costly.. for the support etc.. they just charge more..
I always try to stick with the big guys, they tend to be a bit more expensive, but it's worth paying for if you're talking about minimal downtime and 24/7 support
Now that's scary!! Got one of my websites with one of the big ones but i heard they completely take over your domain should they receive spam complaint with regards to your website!
I'd recommend Hostgator everyone having problems with bad hosts. I had the same thing when I started...(I believe everyone does...) but I have been with hostgator for a while and it's awesome! I do have to pay a little more than I did with my old host but... My 2 cents: If it's too good to be true...it's too good to be true...don't go for hosts promising you 200 gigs bandwith a month for $3..Shop around before you pay your money...moving hosts isn't all that easy so....try to go with good well known companies even if they cost a little more
thanks, I seen I was back online right b4 I had to go to work.. 6 hours after i seen it down no, I don't want to do that yet, I'm going to give them another chance, I'm paid for almost 3 more months and I'd prolly lose that if I named them. ya, I looked around for weeks b4 I picked these guys, I think they are a good host, but maybe I'm on a buggy server in a way I agree, I hate moving all my sites and my clients sites to a new host.. I've been thinking of ASO I assume thats asmallorange ? they where in the groups I was checking on when I picked my current host.
Hello PH33rGear, LiquidWeb offers both managed and unmanaged servers. We encourage our clients to take advantage of our Managed Services as this is our speciality. Thank you very much, Travis Stoliker Director of Marketing LiquidWeb Inc
Hey Travis! I've been a VERY happy customer for almost 5 months now of LiquidWeb. The only time my server has been down was for weather conditions and a small tweaking problem we ran into, otherwise it's been up for almost 100% of the time. I *highly* recommend LiquidWeb services
