Completely agree. Plus there are more problems with IE when cross browser testing for bugs.

Ie8 has been good compare to latest version of firefox that the latter sometimes crashes in the middle of my surfing. But I keep the two in case I'm having problems. Firefox crash can always be remedied by upgrading it.

IE8 isn't half as good as FF with all the necessary add ons. [flashblock, adblock - the the like ;)]

Out of the box, they're probably the same.

IE doesn't compare to FF when it comes to plug-ins, but I am quite impressed with IE8 it runs very smooth on my system.

Amiga users would strongly disagree with that. So would Netscape and Opera users.

If you are a hobbyist, open source is terrific, but if you are building anything for large-scale production open-source becomes very, very expensive to maintain. And support can become a nightmare when people tinker with your product then dishonestly blame YOU when it doesn't work.

    "a hobbyist" don't you mean a regular human? :p
I think most people would fit under your strange definition of a "hobbyist".
As for Amiga, Netscape, and Opera, who uses them? ;)

The real battle is IE vs Firefox and so far IE mainly has the advantage of being the default browser to credit for it's market share.

By hobbyist, I mean someone who is not building something for profit, usually for a medium to large business.

If it's something you are building for yourself for FUN, then open-source is great.

    EXACTLY!!!!!!

I use FF regularly, but the latest updates have not gone smoothly. For example with the new version of FF I am experiencing the inability to right-click a link after a short while. I know its a bug they need to fix asap because I find myself using Chrome more and more and i would vouch that Chrome is the fastest browser in my opinion.

Since 3.5.2 and later, FF has been hanging on me. While it still loads most pages faster than IE8, about every 30 minutes FF will lock up on me for about 45 seconds.

Internet Explorer 8 is more standards compliant than any of the earlier versions.
