How about leting the thread starter choose. Like allow him to lock the thread if he doesn't want replies allowed. Then every ones happy. It shouldn't be too hard to make a simple hack like that!

I like that idea Nintendo. Locking the thread - Users choice. I really get irritated by thread hijackers and spammers on the thread that isnt theirs. I think if the user has the choice this could help mininmize moderators babysitting jobs.

By default no one can post replies. But leting the advertisor decide if he wants replies allowed would be much better.

Yep SP used to be a great place to find the bargain sites - but not any more.

If someone has to pay 20 to sell their site, it is the buyer who is going to have to pick up the tab. Now, when it was cheaper for the seller to advertsie there were bargains galore - but as soon as the price jumped all of the smaller site sellers went the way of the DoDo.

sure, there was a lot of sh*t in some of the paid threads, but really, it is up to the mods to actually mod the forums to keep that under control.

I no longer visit there as much as I used to - their loss I guess.

I moved from sitepoint a long time ago, I only ever use it now if I have a large website I want to sell.. I think even using it for that will soon become worthless.

Personally, I think it's great that there's a Sitepoint and a Digitalpoint. Thanks Shawn for starting DP, and thanks Matt and Mark for SP. And, it's even better that they're not going in the same direction. If they were both the same, how would we benefit out of that? Good to have choices no? I choose both! :)

Well I am glad to see we have a sitepoint advisor(Petertdavis- 7,611 posts at SP) who can find peace of mind here at DP as well. And I agree that both sites should not be going in the same direction, other than to attract more users by their quality content.

Yea, sure, no way is it an either/or. Definately room for both in the market, and personally I'm very greatful to both that they provide a platform for me to make business connections.

Exactly!! They should keep going in the direction they are currently going so they continue to lose active members that come over here. :D I vote they charge 50 cents a post...just to post on all the non-market boards!!! :D And $1.00 a post for the Off Topic boards!! :D:D
