Twitter Follower Count

I have slowly, steadily, faithfully building my Twitter follower count. I have been doing it the old fashioned, hard work way and this has helped me build up some followers that actually read what I post and will go to web my web site which is my primary goal.

However, the way I'm doing it is quite slow. I add on between five to ten users per day.

Now I just read something that really made me think: no one will really follow you until you have a massive follower account because they figure you're not an expert or not worth following until you've got those big follower numbers.

The reason I'm asking is that there are those tools out there that will get you instant followers. Should I do this to look more credible?

Right now I've only got about 260 followers and I'm sure I could bump that up rapidly by doing various "follower schemes". Should I do it just to accelerate the number of followers I get per day?

I would recommend not to use such tools. You would be banned from twitter even worse. IMO

    Have a good day,

They would have a tough time banning people for that. Basically, there's just networks of people who agree to instantly follow people so they all join the same network.

I don't really want to do it cuzz I think I hate "gaming the system" things like that, but I see a lot of people out there doing it obviously. For example, I saw one person with no posts and yet he had a 1,000 followers!!

    This is not true.
In fact, its better coz those who follow you is follow for real not some kind of follower exchange.
If you really good at what you are, then it should not be problem to get huge follower in long term.

    And, so, to clarify:

Are you guys saying that follower counts have no bearing on how fast you can accumulate followers? Or are you just saying its morally and ethically wrong?

It doesn't cost anybody in time or money to follow you, so why would they be swayed by whether you have 300 or 3000 followers?

Because some people might think people with little followers have nothing to offer.

Well, if they're too stupid to work that out from reading what you tweet - feck'em. I hope they enjoy their twiitter stream of auto-tweets from spambots followed by auto-tweeting spambots.

I know it doesn't totally make sense, but I've just read in several places that people look upon you as an "expert" or SME if you have a lot of followers. I mean, to be honest, when I pull up someone in twitseeker and they only have a few hundred followers, I think they're just a "regular joe" and not really someone posting with a lot of knowledge on a subject. I know I shouldn't think that way, but it is a pattern that I've noticed. Most of the good posters, which are few and far between btw, have at least quadruple digits.

By the way, there are some twitter tools that find out people to follow that are based on follower counts. They figure that someone with less four digits or so has little to say.

    What do you guys think?

Being successful on Twitter has nothing to do with in success in life, or in the web. I'll give you an example.

Le parisien is a french newspaper. This website has a huge audience. 4 millions visitors a month! But it has less than 300 followers on Twitter.

You can follow Le Parisien on Twitter, but it's much better to follow the website, and believe me this newspaper has many things to say.

Try using Twitter directories to help get your account promoted a bit more. Also, Mr Tweet is another good way of getting followers.

Judging by your definiton, I am one of those people to judge you, as I have 10K followers on my main account (old fashion btw as well).

I actually do check every single profile before I follow back and I do not care about how many followers you have, but I do care
    • if you have a real profile (= it looks like you did spend at least some time there)
    • if you have something interesting in your bio
    • if your follower count show that you are a spammer = have lots of following but only a few on follwers, like 2000 to 100 = near the spam border
    • if you have tweets that interest me

Most people I know are the same. We do not care about how many people you follow, but about if you are relevant to ourselves.

The people you are speaking about are the ones I call 'fans' - which are in there to be guided and want really to follow somebody elses lead.

To get more followers there are the usual steps:
    • put your twitter account in signatures like here
    • determine which kind of twitterer you want to be and post accordingly
    • do start conversations and participate
    • continue building your followers like you did before

if you did provide the link to your twitter account, we could have given you more insight. ;)

I recommend you to not use such programs/hacks.
Twitter can ban you after being caught or can be serious.

Ps: you can use flashtweet to gain Followers free.

    Good luck,
    Davo

Twitter has a limit of 1000 follows a day before it may ban your account. You can follow 999 a day and then unfollow those who don't follow you back. I've been using my own script to follow people for months and build up huge lists of followers easily enough.

Joining rings of followers is a bad idea, however. Twitter pick up irregular patterns of following (ie 100 people all following eachother) and could ban these quickly.

I'd recommend using software to target people in your niche by keyword and adding people gradually, unfollowing those you don't follow you back.

Flashtweet didn't look free to me. Has it gone for profit?

That's what I've been doing. I use twitseeker. Twitseeker is good but it drives me crazy cuzz it includes a reply response with the person's twitter address so I think they get spammed from it. But I don't know of any other tool that is nearly so good. If anyone else does, I'd love to hear about it!

Also, this script you are talking about it. Did you use the Twitter API?

It does, but there are loads of extra features coded into the web-based program. My users all seem to love it and I listen to what they have to say and make tweaks all the time. I'm PM'ing you for a guest account.
