a silly question: does each and every posting count, or only the link in my user profile? I have couple of posts in this forum, and about 10 posts in another, but when I check my backlinks at Yahoo site explorer, I see only one link from each forum.
my guess is that they are all just irrelevant links, in that case 1 or 100 from the same site is not going to help your rankings, what should help your rankings is a post in a thread exactly related to your niche, also, Google generally aim to be platform agnostic . their goal is to value relevant and editorially given links, (links given by choice) whether they're from a blog or forum or "regular" web site, etc.
don't spend too much time with forum posting for backlinks. if you are gonna be posting on the forums anyways, then its fine to add your sig but forum posting is not suggested just for backlinks. each forum post usually have lots of replies and each member have multiple signatures in their profile. more external links on a page, less value each link gets. besides, the posts on a forum only stays on the from category page for a short pediod of time and then moves deep down when google cannot find them anymore. so you see forum posting is hardly a good link building practice
In My Opinion link in forum Posting have the best purpose for driving traffic into your website. not to build link
Forum links are not important ? You guys are living under a rock then. You should really read this article, you will think different and if this doesn't change your minds then good luck
I always notice positive changes in SERPs when I spend more time on different forums (especially if I sign up for a few new forums).
No matter how many links you have on a particular site, it will only be counted as one link in the eyes of the search engines.
Interesting read, I do believe they carry some, but not as much as people give them credit for. I think the best bet is to get the most links in various locations rather than try and get 1000 forum posts on one site. Forum signatures should be used to generate traffic, not primarily for backlinks.
Yes, every other link from single domain has lower value than the previous one. Imagine sidewide link link in the footer of this forum - there are 9 010 000 indexed by google. It is not possible to count such sidewide link like 9 010 000 regular links - it would mess up the search results by websites of the owners of popular websites with many pages who place links to their other websites to the footer.
I don't know about others, but the basic aim of forum is to discuss about your problem and try to find its solution. Backlinks and traffic are its additional plus points. But, right now backlinks and traffic has taken over discussion in forum. Most of the people participate in forums for backlinks and traffic only, discussion is just a formality.
I don't think it is only formality. People will not click on your signature links (or not too often) is you will post useless messages. If you answer the questions and your answer really help to the people they tend to believe you and more likely will follow your signature link. That is what I like on the forum marketing. You must help others to make something for yourself.
Forum posting is a great methods get backlinks and traffic. First of all you should be a honest user. You should contribute to the forum. You should place useful threads or replies. If user find your reply is useful he will check your signature. On the other hand forum signatures are very useful as backlinks. I have seen some sites totally depend on forum signatures and still get good SERP.
