    Hi

I am sick of deleting a bunch of viagras from my forum every day .. Could someone please suggest me what are the best ways to protect against those spam ?

Any addon to Vbulletin ? or maybe anything to change in the config ?

I want my forum to be user friendly as well as spam free

Heres what I did for my Forum:

    1. Custom Fonts and Background images for captcha; + EMail verification at Registration.

    2. Users with less than 5 posts can't post Links and EMail addresses.

    3. Enabled Akismet scanning of posts for users with less than 25 posts.

#2 was enough to prevent the majority of Viagra and iPhone adverts. And Akismet catches all other types of spam. (sometimes false positives too)

    Although I think it's possible to do that with setting up multiple usergroups and automatic user promotions;
I find it easier to just use a simple mod. (have slightly modified it) :

The mod is released for vB 3.5.0 but it works well for 3.6.x and 3.8.x too.

I actually use recaptcha and also I have a mod for having to accept rules before you can post (have to wait 30 secs to click except) and I've never ran into a problem like that.

NOTE: I also use the vbulletin firewall

best way : Question and answer system on registration
you may also choose specific question for your site content, if it is for example webmaster : what SEO stands for? ...

I was just going to post a thread similar to this one when I notice this. I have a slightly different problem, however....I have bots / spam users registering at my forum which I am sure is automated. Even though I have reCAPTCHA on for registration, it does not seem to be working. How do I solve this issue?

Can someone point me me to the link for this mod on vBulletin.org so that I can instruct my tech admin to install it for me?

Oh, there it is. Didn't see it...thanks!

EDIT: It says that it would only work for 3.7, is there a version of it for 3.8?

I use the nospam and it stopped 99% of the spam
the recaptcha mod is good as well

ps.. most 3.7 mods will work on 3.8 ;)

I am going to try NoSpam!, looks pretty good. I found that recaptcha catches most of the spammers, but there are a few that still get through. Nothing is 100% yet.
