You get your salary from your clients.
Google offers a service and gets paid for it.
You offer an Adwords management service and use their facilities to do it. Don't ask them to give you money on top of it.

I find that most of these recent new users checking the Adwords section are asking some of the most ridiculous questions about Adwords are managing Canadian clients campaign without even knowing how to use Adwords.

This is a very scary observation...

Thanks for the laugh... assuming that drewski's post was a tongue in cheek response to sub.

Sub, I have made the same observation. They don't necessarily manage a Canadian account but there are obviously more ridiculous questions. I've even had a potential client just yesterday saying that if he hires me, I'd be his fifth account manager. Not sure if he's just a difficult person to deal with or that four others really screwed up his campaign but I admire his tenacity to find a good manager. Most would have given up. I guess he really doesn't want to do it himself. He does sell something that is not easy to sell and I almost told him I don't work on accounts selling that kind of stuff.

I don't know where they are coming from but this confirms there are a lot of people who think they can do PPC. People are paying money and getting burned or disappointed. To all, PPC is a skill that not everyone has. It takes time to develop. As such, good PPC managers don't exactly come cheap. Who you hire a lawyer charging $5 an hour to defend you in a murder case?

As for ridiculous questions, I've been nice so far. But the next one, I'm telling them they have no business charging other people if they don't know the basics.

I'm not saying I'm a Manager or a PPC expert, but I'm constantly learning and I understand keyword research and what is needed to make competitive and performing ad units according to what the potential buyers are looking for.

    Relevancy is key, nuff said...

    Its just sad.

What is sad? If you manage somebody's account then you charge them a percentage of the ad buy. It's a little easier for ad agencies though, as the TV, radio, or print guys give a 15% discount to agencies and the client pays the agency full price, so the commission is built in to the ad buy price. I'm willing to bet that Google does this for larger PPC managers.

That's too bad. The print media has been discounting ad buys to agencies for over 100 years, radio and TV for more than 50 years. Maybe Google will one day realize that it is a win-win strategy.

Other media such as print, radio and television may have been discounting ad buys for 100 years. But PPC is not print, radio or TV. Keep in mind that Google and the others want a level playing field for all advertisers. You cannot have an advantage because you are bigger and can spend many times more than the smaller players. By offering discounts, you remove that advantage. Google will therefore never offer discounts or commissions of any kind.

Your "discount" happens, if you are a smart advertiser, when you create high click rate ads. You get more clicks at sensibly the same or lower price. More targeted clicks results in more sales.

Another thing you must realize is that it is US/WE who control the system. If you find prices high, we only have to blame ourselves. There are way too many PPC advertisers who are driving the prices up.
