Am I Wasting My Time?

I've been banging my head against a wall for the last couple of months while trying to promote my new blog on hacking...and I'm starting to wonder if I'm wasting my time.

Firstly, is it a bad idea to use blogspot? Am I damaging my SEO chances this way?

I've submitted god knows how many links and posts and the like but I'm ranking poorly even for weakly competed long keywords.

All the content is original and (I hope) pretty good and I've tried hard with the SEO.

Anyway, take a look and let me know your thoughts: http://hackingforwindows.blogspot.com

I will say your promotion efforts are not at all sufficient. You have got very little to none backlinks. You should spend more time in generating backlinks to your site.

Yes, try to get as many links as possible. Regarding the blogspot, it is always better to have your own domain and hosting because you have your weblog under control. If blogspot will became unreliable or will add advertisements on your blog you can do nothing.

Since you didn't build too much backlings I would reconsider buying new domain and hosting.

If your serious about working with SEO and owning a website, start paying for your hosting. Every backlink you create right now is pointless, you'll eventually move to a domain name and nothing will point where you want it to. Get your own domain name, sign up with a good host (I recommend host gator, check out my signature) and start doing some SEO to your new url. Spread the range of how and where you submit backlinks, directories, blog comments, your blog posts in rss feeds, forums, really get it out there and in as many locations as possible.

    Hi,
If you seriously want to earn a good source of income online, you will eventually need to use a top-level domain name and paid web hosting. I also started from blogspot but I am now using self-hosted wordpress.org. Web hosting is getting cheaper these days, especially if you use a coupon code/ discount link. To avoid wasting your time spent on SEO and marketing, you should start off using a top-level domain name instead of blogspot.

Thanks a lot for the replies everyone.
I suspected that my own hosting and domain would be necessary...

Just to be sure: is having a blogspot sub domain bad because blogspot can do anything they want to your blog in the future and you also can't edit it perfectly in html? Or does it also damage your page rank etc?

I am doing lot of works on links, getting about 30-35 new links daily from various sources. Now I am having PR5+ and more visitors too.

If you want to promote your site seriously, i suggest to take a domain and promote your own blog.

Install wordpress blog in your domain, install seo friendly plugins. It helps a lot.

Blogspot is also good. But, think once. All all the time it is not yours. Your account may get suspend at any time causing any of the blogger terms and conditions. If your blogspot account suspends, later you struggle a lot.

So, register a domain. Do full efforts on your domain.

No, it has nothing to do with your pagerank or the the rank in search results. But it may happen that blogspot will suffer by downtimes or another problems mentioned above will come.

    Thanks again everyone.
KathyMiller: How are you going about getting the 30-35 links each day? Can it be as simple as posting a link in a blog comment?!

Your efforts will show with time. Don't give up and continue adding regular content.

One tip I would give you is not to use blogspot use real hosting. A great free hosting is you can use for example is Freewebhostx.com

It is definitely better to have your own domain, but using blogspot isn't your biggest problem. Have patience. :) If you've only been at this a few months, you're not going to see great results yet - that's normal. Keep at it, keep making quality posts, and keep getting great incoming links, and you'll notice things pickup after a few more months. It takes a lot of work to build up a site with good SEO.

    Good luck to you. :)
