Someone I know has built up a web site that is going off like a rocket. I feel it has the potential of being something very big. The question is this. How would the big guns like Google, Yahoo and Microsoft take notice of such a site?

This site (I won't mention it here for privacy reasons) has grown naturally in a very short time and has attained over 5,000 backlinks and not one of them is from a link exchange or paid for.

Many software application companies are putting this site into their applications. It is getting bigger and better every day.

Now, the owner has not got the funds to take it to the next level because it needs serious hosting and major development to get it there. If any of the big guns gets a hold of it then every man and his dog will want to use this site to benefit their own site.

I am not the owner of the site. I'm just asking on the owner's behalf.

    Regards,

    Col :)

I would imagine you would want to take the site atleast to a certain level first? Anything can be recreated and made better when it is brand new. Plus yahoo, etc has the capital and talent to build it and just pay for placement in these programs.

I would think he needs investors/partners etc to take it a larger level where it will be more difficult to re-create then try to sell it off

Since the site is about the software,i would suggest your friend to team up with cnet company.
Or you can sell some stake in the website to raise funds.
You cannot wait they contact you.
Instead you should take the initiative to contact them either via email or by phone.
