A lot of people copy my content and post it to their websites, what should I do? PS: Some of them copy it before my articles get indexed by Google....
Welcome to the club Fortunately for me, people use my videos and images which have my domain blatanly on them so it's like free advertising... If people are using your text it would be wise to contact them first and ask them politely to either remove it, or give you the credit which is free advertising... Only thing is you may have to start worrying about duplicate content in the eyes of google
Filing a DMCA is real easy. All you need to do is file a DMCA complaint with the web-host of the site that is copying you. Most of the hosts are very aggressive when it comes to copyright violation.
Congratulations , wait for few weeks before the website who copied contents from your website ranks better than your website for the copied keywords.
very first find the web host of the site that is copying your content. You can do that by doing a whois at the IP address of stealing site. Next go to the web-site of host. Most of the hosts provides information (email address) regarding how to file a DMCA or an Abuse Complaint. Do google on "How to file a DMCA complaint" and you will get a real nice format regarding the format of email you need to write for DMCA. Write a professional looking DMCA complaint to web-host. Stay assured, the web host will contact the webmaster of the stealing site and in 90% of the case, the stealing site will remove your content. If it doesn't work, contact Google and file DMCA. Check which advertisers they are using. Send a professional DMCA to them as well if above steps don't work. If the site owner lives in US, you can even post him a DMCA letter and most probably he will comply in the fear of you taking a legal action against him.
This post might help you- How to Report a Website or Blog to Google This is one of the serious problem in today's web. Everyone wants money without making any effort. Suffers only who create original contents..
Don't even bother warning people, if they don't know that copying content is not allowed (I doubt so) then it's their loss. The problem is you're not likely to take any legal action, so you just hope the DMCA complaint will be enough.
First I would contact the website owner, if that does not work contact the hosting company of the site, and then Google
I would rather politely send a email advising the site owner of infringement on copyrights and then give a warning to pull it down otherwise i will do some action.
Send them an email telling you will take actions if your content is not removed within a week. If they neglect, then just continue with adding more content. This way you will at least scare some of the thieves away.
thanks.. i will use it.. All my blog content in being copied by someone Thanks for thread starter.. You started good thread
In my opinion, just about every good web master goes through this phase. You'll get mad a first, but then you find ways to get around it, and down the road you take it as a compliment. Standard procedure.
Also, make sure your site: - is nicer looking - is easier to use - has more complex back-end functionality and the duplicates will lose to you in the long run, because you will do better at organic link building.
