You're talking about 2 totally separate things. Link building is for SEO which means organic traffic, and ads are paid with no long-term benefits. And, ads can be based on static link, CPM, CPA, or CPC, so it's really broad.

If the content you have on your website is unique (as in you write it), then it can be marketed on social media websites.

Social media websites (like Digg, Mixx, Propeller, etc) bring in tens of thousands to hundreds of thousands of visitors to your website without hours of hitting their front pages. That's what my company, MagicShovels, does. We market your content on these websites and get you on the front page with very high success rates. Not only do you get thousands of unique, targeted visitors, but you build thousands of back-links which are unbelievably for SEO.

If you'd like, fill out a form submission on our site: http://www.magicshovels.com/assessment.html and definitely mention you're from DigitalPoint in the 'how did you find us' field :)

If you've spend no money on marketing, it seems that you've already done a pretty good job. You've got a lot of twitter followers which is very impressive for a site of only 6 months old.
If you are looking to improve PR, Original contents are the most important factor. Clear web page design is also important. You also need to pay attention to selecting the rignt keywords and placing them in the right place to make the site search engine friendly. Besides, you could try making good use of social bookmarking sites like Digg, as well as some article submission sites.

I like the YouTube idea. Create a weekly vlog about your stock picks. This gives your readers and viewers a way to get to know you better.

    Your site is very impressive.

If you make $1000 per month I would invest $300-500 in adwords and see how much traffic/money that brings in.

Also, may I ask..where do you come up with your content? You have a lot of good info and pics on your site, do you create all that by yourself?? And is the site built from the Flexsqueeze theme?

The site itself is very well made and looks impressive, I would definitely go far with it.

Consider submitting helpful articles related to stocks and finance and the current economy to major article directories, with links back to your site. Trust me, this will bring in loads and loads of traffic if done correctly and it can be very cheap, even free.

Also make cheap at home videos with tons of great advice on stocks and finance and post it on Youtube and pick your videos title wisely and see the traffic come in.

    Good luck!

    Thanks,
    Omar

I second the opinion of Omar. Articles are good because a) They get backlink to your site b) They get some traffic to your web-site.

I posted a general article at Ezine, can I post any article there even if its a duplicate or does it have to be a newly written one?
