It's worth $0 for being a trademark violation - the guy selling it is an idiot, and whoever buys it is a bigger one.

Does this not saying something, he bought the domain a few weeks ago? It's definitely a trademark violation.

I must change that as I sold it. There are loads of websites with twitter in, but how many do you see with google in?

No, it's not worthless. I'm just saying if a domain like that hasn't been taken by now, it surely must cause some problems if you buy it and use it.

but your twitter domain is still a trademark violation and it will be worth nothing as its the same thing if this domain is a trademark violation.

i think you should be refunding your buyer for that twitter domain!

Pretty much. If Twitter or Google went after you on those domains and if they won arbitration, you would be legally forced to sign over those domains for free.

Both services appear to be fairly good if you don't use their names against them but it's a very big gray area.

This one is actually a bit of a tight rope. Google has been wildly unsuccessful in copyrighting the name because the word google has been in existence for a very long time.

Now being that it's also a trademark one could argue the point on the basis that it is a generic word and therefore no violation exists. You'd want to have a good lawyer to argue it though.

For reference look up the court case between Intel and AMD on the copyrighting, trademarking, and patenting of the various x86 names and chipsets. This is the exact reason why Intel clone chips exist today.

However since then, some changes have been made to local and international law because of that decision. Just take BMW as an example (although I think BMW is an anagram like IBM so in fact that's a little different).

Personally I wouldn't want to go pissing off a multi billion dollar company but there are tons of domains, and tons of books, and other digital products that bear the name Google.

But say for example I write a kids book and call it Google the Cat because the cat has big eyes and the story is all about the cat seeing crazy stuff (just a silly example). What your saying is that would be a trademark violation. But clearly it would not be.

You can't copyright or trademark a generic term. If you can then I am going out tomorrow and registering every single Anglo-Saxon first name in existence. Try to use your own name and I'll sue you,. On top of that I could go and trademark and copyright every single word in the dictionary and you'd have to pay me a royalty everytime you wanted to speak or I could sue you.

Having said all that, its a stupid domain to own because Google is a private entity and they can kick anyone out of their search engine for any reason they like. So you won't get any benefit from the domain that you think you might be getting. You'll be booted out quicker than a pimp at sunday school.

yes but how often do you hear of a domain being black listed due to the fact it has google in it. i have never heard of it before but thank you so much incomesinternational.com for your input. so the word google is not a copyrighted phrase?

It's happened in the past, so the question really is do you want to take a $5000 chance on it.

The word google is not copyright but google.com is as well as all images and logos.
