I was wondering... Why google.com shows different rankings for same keyword on different systems? Like when I search position for one keyword in google.com it shows me on 3rd position but when my partner search for same keyword in google.com he is not able to find the keyword in top 100 positions. Why this happens.... Kindly advice... Candy
Interesting, what is the keyword, so I can check it myself. What is the time lag between the first check and the second and subsequent checks?
With such huge differences I would almost expect it to be that you get the personalized search results from google. Try logging out from your google account and doing the same search. With smaller differences it can be that your search get served by different google servers that aren't completly synched yet.
First of all, please mention the time gap between your search and your friend's search. It's all about the update of search engine data base to ensure the most relevant search results and recent updates at the same time. The time gap between your search and your friend's search may be enough to update search engine's index for the keyword you inserted. Most probable reason may be that you either of you might have signed in your google account while searching. Try the search after logging out.
Thanks! Regarding the time gap --- its hardly a minute's difference. We 2 checked the ranking for keyword almost at same time. So I don't think that there is too much of gap in the time..... Also, maybe have was signed in his google account while checking rankings, but is this matters a lot? Candy
Google now a days shows results on different specifications such as your friend is in United State and he is searching "seo services" he will find different results and your Indian friend in India find different results at same google.com. This due to geo-targeting. Google is committed to show most relevant data at its result pages. Some time results can vary in same city and same building if your request query is responding back from different google data center and there results are change. But these results can not change more than 2 or 3 positions but geo-graphical location change your results dramatically.
This can be cause by different locations. They are: http://www.google.com/intl/en/ Google.com.au and many more. All of these above have different results but similar.
If you are log-in then google will give preference to your interest and it will improve ranking of that website which is frequently open at your system, when you log-in.
I would be willing to bet quite a bit on it being your personlized search. Try both of you with and without being logged in to Google, and I guess you will see the reason for the disparisity.
Is there some common way to see the rankings? As this is really a very big difference that we have noticed. If you say someone is logged in Google account and seeing the results it must show good rankings for the site, why he is not able to even view the site in top 100 then?
If suppose my site is optimized for few keywords. It is 100% possible that if we 2 are getting different results then many people all over the web will see different results. Some may find the site in top 10 and some may not even see the site in top 100... so how exactly personlized search will help!!! Candy
My guess is that whilst doing SEO work, you have been logged on to your site approx 100 times the last week... (I know I did) In that way, Google will obviously think that this is a site of high importance for you. You might even have bookmarked it in google bookmarks. Therefore it will show extremely highly in your search compared to anyone else on earth. My recommendation is that you go to options in google and turn off personal search whilst doing SEO. If not you will get your spirited lifted several times just to get back to earth when you check from another computer. Regards
I have noticed that if you have been to a site before it moves up the rankings as google uses your past history too. You can see this if it says that you have visited the site x amount of times. Also at the bottom they inform you of this
i've been hearing about this from a few of my friends about my site too... i don't understand it really!
I guess its the datacenter problem, the data are still not being aggregated fully so you will see a lots of difference in rankings
Hey, All of you talking about datacenters, I know this can give small ranking differences at any given time, but not hundreds of positions as the first poster was talking about. Or am I completly wrong? I say always test without personal search on. Also, languages can of course make huge difference Regards,
It depends on where you are and where your partner is. Google takes sometimes to update it's datacenters, that may cause this issue. However, there cannot be such a gap 3 and 100. Have you cleared you cached and search? Do you see still on # 3? How about him, Did he clear his cache and check? Still on # 100 or somewhere...?
