It depends if your trying to raise your serps or pr. My suggestion is to build a link leverage engine with this type of blog. That way once you set it up it will be automatic. You might want to submit articles to the top 20 dofollow article directories. Create a link wheel to the main page. Also when you are doing this make sure you ping your backlinks. Most people forget this step. What is the point of getting backlinks if you don't get them index. You can try creating a toolbar and submitting to software directories. Try adding profiles to the top flux sites. Make sure when you create the link wheel you submit to rss feeds and social bookmarking sites. I actually have a created a bunch of pdf's of the sites I use when I start link development. I can send it to your email if you like just message me. One last thing before I go, you need to do proper market research for your keywords. That way you know which anchor text to place.

Blog commenting, Twitter, Facebook, Digg, Squidoo, BlogSpot, Blogger, any type of social/blogging website is a great way to generate quality backlinks, just make sure you're not spamming. That won't do you any good

The best way to link build it are the following methods (based on my observation)

    1) Social bookmarking
    2) Forum Participation
    3) Social Media Sharing
    4) Blogging

All must have a do-follow tags so that you'll rank well in Google.

Now you upset Elvis because Elvis is the only King. Don't forget about article marketing - no matter what they say, it makes a difference in long-term. Also allocate $10 and pay somebody to submit your RSS to lists and directories.

The best way is to use social networks like Facebook, Twitter, etc.. Yes I know those links are nofollow however it's like a public relations machine as more people will find out about your site (and if the content is good) they will link to your site.. Also, if the site is new I would start doing some Adwords marketing to get the word out about your site..

Yes and no. It has some value but I don't think it's worth spending the time looking for do-follow blogs. IMO, it's best to just comment on blogs if you're already there and don't worry about whether it's do-follow or not. Either way you'll get some benefit (the blog owner will usually visit yours and leave a comment too at the very least.)

Well the easiest would be by adding it to your sig + adding the blogs feed url to your user cp.

Blog commenting is good as long as long as it's in your niche and adds to the blog and doesn't look like spam.

K cool one more quick question, these people who charge something around like $100 for 600 linkbacks, is that worth it or a scam?

Hi James, do you mind if I ask you what keywords you're specifically targeting? What sites other than the Wall Street Journal do you like, and what do you feel is your site's place within the financial news/analysis blogging community?

Translation: Spam as many blogs as possible. (In other words, don't do it - you don't want to be labeled as a blog spammer. Instead, concentrate on developing relationships with other bloggers.)

He's trying to improve his site's visibility -- not only in the search engines, but in the eyes of his target audience as well. Submitting to article directories is going to be a waste of time unless he can get a link to the original article on the submissions, link wheels suck and are tantamount to money laundering (except you're laundering link juice/weight instead of cash). And you don't always have to "ping" the sites you link to. Usually just clicking the link (so it gets listed in their referrer logs) is sufficient.

This may bring traffic, but not always the kind of traffic he wants (repeat traffic. Most social media traffic tends to be like certain politicians - one and done).

Please read what I posted above.

Not really. How many blog comments do YOU tend to skip when you're reading a blog?

Wrong. Those are bottom of the barrel links that not even Walmart would want to sell (if links were a product they could sell).

To quote Elvis Presley, "thank you, thank you very much".

You can't upset the dead. ;)

Yeah you can. Acquiring strong, merit-based authoritative links. They take time, they're not easy to get, but just one of them can be worth more than its weight in gold (yes, the precious metal).

No, it's not. I've already explained why several times, so I won't do it again.

Pretty much none of them to be honest. The only way you'll be able to get social media to work for you is if you develop a community around you, your site, and your site's content. Once you have a loyal following, they'll happily promote your content for you via word of mouth.

Pretty much, but I wouldn't use AdWords. Why pay for something you can get for free?

That's going to depend on the keywords you're going to target. You won't be able to pick those keywords without conducting some serious competitive keyword research and analysis though (something I happen to specialize in).

As for blog commenting, if you're going to do it, contribute to the discussions at hand and try to form a relationship with the blogger.

Basically. Like I said, forming relationships is the key. Without the relationship (and giving to the community the blogger has established), commenting on blogs will be pretty much pointless.

If you mean most of the people here on Digital Point, probably a scam. The links you're likely to get from them will be blog comments, forum posts/signatures, directory and social media spam.

Join a few relevant forums. If you have to fill out a form each time to add a link, that is a lot of time wasted. I only take time for something like dmoz. It took 2 years for my site to get listed there.
