This is fantastic news!!! Thanks Woordpress has also started use the .me domains http://en.blog.wordpress.com/2009/08/14/shorten/
Awesome news. I wonder whether this is also the case for other ccTLD's like .TV, .WS etc.. I don't have any other ccTLD's in webmaster tools so I can't check. Interesting to note that the wordpress blog claims... "WP.me is the only two-letter .me domain in the world" Which is simply not true. (Unless they mean its the only one in use at the moment). Cheers James
I only have experience with com/net/org/me but I learned today that .tv is also seen as neutral by Google. Don't know for .ws!
Finally! I can't believe it's taken Google so long to allow geo-targeting for .ME but at least it's finally happened now. Hopefully that will raise their value!
Looking for feedback... what do you think these are worth? Demon.me WebsiteHost.me Annual.me Clemson.me
Well, it will do something for sure! Added this post to namemon hoping to get someone out there to notice this important change http://www.namemon.com/component/content/article/43-search-engines/64-google-permits-geo-target-of-me-domains
I've also written an article - it's about the fact you can now geo-target .ME domains but it's mainly a rant at Google for the fact we've not been able to do so for over a year! http://themasterbrewer.com/web-design-blog/geo-targeting-cctlds-with-google/ Comments welcome
I got thefra.me awhile back with Plato (his username on DP) not sure what to do with that now though, it's getting kind of rusty.
Wondering why only 2-3 people are talking about it. Why are'nt registrars like domain.me or godaddy.com or any other registrars mentioning anything about this on their site or blog ? Regards, ASHISH THAKKAR
I also wondered about this. The only reason I can think of is that Google don't want too much publicity because then a lot of people will ask why other ccTLDs are not seen as neutral by Google, even though they are open to worldwide registration.
I doubt this as the reason. I wonder if a registrar would respond to me if i asked them directly. What is your initial URL where you made the discovery and have written about it ? thanks & regards, ASHISH THAKKAR
Ok i guess this has to be official. Just 2 hrs ago .me on facebook posted : ".ME .ME domains can be geo-targeted! I discovered via this thread and I wrote about it here: http://www.themasterbrewer.com/web-design-blog It might be worth contacting GoDaddy support (support@godaddy.com) although their support is quite often poor. I would not be surprised if GoDaddy had something to do with Google's decision, as they are a partner of .ME so have been marketing it heavily since the launch. Therefore they had a reason to want Google to allow Geo Targeting of .ME as it would increase its appeal. So it's quite surprising that GoDaddy haven't announced it themselves to give it some publicity. I still think Google not announcing it themselves is due at least in some part to them not wanting owners of other ccTLDs to ask why their domains cannot be Geo Targeted. There are numerous ccTLDs that can be registered in any country, according to the ccTLD registry's rules (for example .IN), but Google still refuse to allow people to Geo Target these domains, despite having done so for other ccTLDs like .ME and .TV, for which the rules are the same.
