Hi DP members, Something disturb me for a long time. I have never seen .biz, .ws and rarely .info domains in top 10 SERP in Google? Does Google prefer .com and .org domains against the other extensions? Cheers Kal
Makes you wonder why GoDaddy always has sales on .info and .biz. I guess they are good cheap domains if you plan on buying advertising to supply your conversions.
FYI, Google treats all .TLD exactly the same.. However.. Server Location, IP Addresses and Geo Targeting will affect any website ranking in Google SE NO matter if it's a .info or a .com domain name
Really? Well search for http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&source=hp&q=check+pagerank&btnG=Google+Search http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=chatbox&btnG=Search http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=shoutbox&btnG=Search
The extension done make much affect. The reason you see most of the .com listed at the first because .com website is more than other extension
Well mainly coz ppl will only use .biz sites for keyword sites and offcourse these have strong competition
I think you are right, I have never believe than extension really matter, may be the most important factor will always be the domain age.
People & businesses generally prefer to have .com domains because they are well known and people are more likely to remember a .com domain than a .biz (.info, .ws, .org, .net etc..) domain with the same name. This fact makes .com much more common than any other TLD. I would say the next most popular is .net and then .org and then the rest of them (putting .biz, .ws etc.. at the bottom of the list). Branding is very important - Most people who are serious about their online business will not only want their site to rank well but they will also want it to be remembered and this is best done with a .com domain (not to mention the type-in traffic that .com domains get as opposed to other TLDs). Another factor is that .com (.net, .org) domains are usually older than .info, .ws, .biz domains and SEs rely on domain age / site age in their ranking system. Anyway - there are many reasons that .com, .net & .org domains are much more common in search engines than any other TLD and I don't think that TLD bias by SEs is one of them.
it's just the law of numbers - there are much more .com domains out there so chances are that they will show up higher
type "free games" and a .biz is almost the first site. when i typed it in i saw 2 .biz sites and i know of another .ws arcade doing well in rankings
I don't think it's anything to do with Google. Rather, I think the owners of these domains just don't do much professional SEO work with them.
I don't think Google cares about the tld of a site. There are more .com sites than .biz or .info, so that is why when you search for any given term the results are for the majority .com sites. Also, since the .com tld has been around longer than the others, a lot of the .com sites will be ranked higher because of their age. However, I'm sure for various queries you will find a .info or .biz at the top of Google's results because they have earned the spot with content and back links.
seems that you can do the same SEO to a .biz compared to a .com theres just higher PR .coms because they are more popular
Thanks for the example. I was going to say that Google treats all gTLDs the same, and this proves it without me having to try
