    Hi there

I'm still trying to get my head around SEO, and would like to have my site Ranked in google or any other search engine. I have tried so hard to get this going, and would like to know more about how PR, PR5, and the different numbers of PR works?

    Many thanks in advance
    CHEERS :)

It's a scale from 0 to 10, 10 being the highest. I'm not sure what sites are 9 and 10, it's very rare, I'm sure someone will jump in the thread with that information.
    PR 3- 5 is a good average.
Any PageRank you can see from toolbars or PR checkers are crude and out-of-date approximations of what Google is using in it's algorithm.
You get PR by getting links - good links in a related niche from sites with high PR - but don't go chasing PageRank - it's a 'symptom' not a cause - produce good content, get links, you'll get PR without ever giving it a second thought.

True that, it feels like I've wasted a lot of time trying to Rank instead of building good content.

Lastly, what do you mean by 'get links'?

For example, Your link can add at another site with High PR (maybe PR 5) and with same themes.
If your site is about webhosting, you should get backlink from another web hosting site with PR 5.

PageRank is a numerical representation of a page authority. Its calculation is based on links and PageRank of page where links to your page are located.

You can get PR with backlinks. Try to get backlinks from high PR websites. Actually, PR and SEO google ranking are different. However, many times it happens that high PR pages are displayed on top.

google use pr (page rank) to rank/classify a certain site. based on its algorithm, google will determine how popular your site is by monitoring the age of your site, inbound links, traffic and content. the rankings will start from pr0 to pr10.

high PR are does site that got PR 4 and up, if you get a link to those sites you'll probably get good points in ranking in google, but as of now PR is not the factor in getting good serp. Focus on the content. Always remember content is the king.

PageRank is a numeric value that represents how important a page is on the web. Google figures that when one page links to another page, it is effectively casting a vote for the other page. The more votes that are cast for a page, the more important the page must be. Also, the importance of the page that is casting the vote determines how important the vote itself is. Google calculates a page's importance from the votes cast for it. How important each vote is is taken into account when a page's PageRank is calculated.
PageRank is Google's way of deciding a page's importance. It matters because it is one of the factors that determines a page's ranking in the search results. It isn't the only factor that Google uses to rank pages, but it is an important one.

PageRank relies on the uniquely democratic nature of the web by using its vast link structure as an indicator of an individual page's value. In essence, Google interprets a link from page A to page B as a vote, by page A, for page B. But, Google looks at more than the sheer volume of votes, or links a page receives; it also analyzes the page that casts the vote. Votes cast by pages that are themselves "important" weigh more heavily and help to make other pages "important".

Google assigns a numeric weighting from 0-10 for each webpage on the Internet; this PageRank denotes a site’s importance in the eyes of Google. The PageRank is derived from a theoretical probability value on a logarithmic scale like the Richter Scale. The PageRank of a particular page is roughly based upon the quantity of inbound links as well as the PageRank of the pages providing the links. It is known that other factors, e.g. relevance of search words on the page and actual visits to the page reported by the Google toolbar also influence the PageRank.[citation needed] In order to prevent manipulation, spoofing and Spamdexing, Google provides no specific details about how other factors influence PageRank.
