New, by my read of the history, the flowering we're talking about ended, by one thread of thought, sometime around the 12th century, with a few isolated examples extending into the early 15th century.

At the heart of it, was the gradual embracing of empirical inquiry - rational method - as a basis for scientific endeavour. Such a basis is at odds in many ways with ecclesiastical hegemony, at least as it has borne out in human history - and here, Islam isn't alone (see Galileo, and the Church).

Nevertheless most of the achievements we're discussing found full fruit, and ended, by about the 12th century - nearly 1000 years ago. You blame this on "corrupt rulers and dictators which have been imposed at the Muslims, who only serve their western masters and nothing else."

    Can you explain further?

Incidentally - not sure why you've not taken part - but can I invite your views, with respect to child marriage, and whether this is, or isn't, a problem within Islamic societies?

No doubt, imperialism and colonialism was, is, an abomination.

However, the response I made was to a reference to the flowering of Islamic science - taking place nearly 1000 years ago.

What happened in the interim - not the last 100 years, but the last 1000?

The reason is obviously that they strayed away fromthe teachings of Islam.

Muslims started to split in Sects and groups, The Caliphate became a monarchy
The Mongols had a BIG part in it as they destroyed the Books and libraries and after that Muslims never really came back in Sciences.

at the same the the western civilization continued to become stronger and stronger while the Muslim decline continued and in 17th-18th century Muslims totally collapsed under the west and the final blow came with the end of the Caliphate and since them Muslim Countries have really been on the Mercy of West

Although the Muslims were on the decline and had stopped innovating in Sci-Tech but still they were just doing OK (in terms of being in control and power) till the end of 18th century but at that time West had a huge Tech boost the industrial revolution and that was it

    How about past 800~1000 years?

The blame is on not the west and the "rulers", but on those who educated you that you dont have to know to read and write in order to be "smart" ! !

    Amazing

The danger in not being an intellecutal is the ability to be make posts like this, and be proud of them.

You have again been dishonest .....

Why is it, that so many muslims cannot handle the TRUTH on this board ... and outside too? And why don't you stick to the topic, but trying to divert the attention elsewhere? I know why, and you know it too.... but you don't want to acknowladge it.

So surprising of you to malign Jews in a thread that has nothing to do with them. It is sad to watch how your brain works - in spite of what you were taught, blaming Jews is not the solution for every situation.

The answer is quite simple: why should he (PBUH) even do that? And how would an answer, nay, any answer, to your rhetorical question, will change your opinion about the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and Islam in general?

Really, don't waste our time answering insincere questions that is not going to take us anywhere. Your intention is to harass and defame the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). It takes two to tango, and I urge the Muslims here not to dance to the "tango" of this insincere person asking pointless questions which serve no real purpose other than harrassment.

If your prophet didn't have to learn it, then why you learned it?
You don't have to send your children to school either.... espesially if they are girls.

    One question for the muslims.

Do you guys think paradase is a place for ignorant beings?
If you think that just the belief in the quran and mohammad will give you the key to Heaven, you have been totally misled.

Let me share with you something that your quran does not reveal.
In my book, paradise is a place of Loving beings, of Highly developed souls. To achieve that level one must become really smart, that can be hardly achieved without the ability to read and write.
As of now, the quran appears to be a book for creating fanatical people, cripling their ability to accept anything new and different from what it teaches, thus spiritually damaging generation after generation of muslim people, tha't's why the muslim world has fallen behind the civilized west.
Instead of opening your door for more knowladge it (quran) shuts it down.

The more muslims believe alphabet is not important the more you will be lagging behind everyone else.

The alphabet opens the doors for wisdom and better life.

Because of his personal example, Muhammad's inability to read HAS DONE A GREAT DAMAGE TO THE MUSLIM WORLD. So many muslims don't go to shool in Afghanistan, Pakistan ... etc. because they believe they don't really need it. I know this talk is straight and not very nice, but I am saying the things as I see them.

Why don't you guys do your own research???

".Afghanistan - Education ...only 53% of boys and 5% of girls were enrolled in elementary school in 2002. Boys and girls are schooled separately. A teacher has on average 58 pupils in an elementary school classroom, but only 28 students in a secondary school classroom. Only 32% of the males and 11% of females graduating from elementary school continue into secondary education. ...."

Pakistan's literacy rate has increased from 35 percent in 1991 to 39 percent in 1995-96, says a survey presented here today.

The report on the Pakistan Integrated Household Survey (PIHS) presented by the Federal Bureau of Statistics (FBS) said the percentage of the population over 10 years of age attending school increased from 47 percent in 1991 to 52 percent in 1995-96.

Gross enrollment in primary schools stands at 74 percent in 1995-96, virtually no change since 1991. Net enrollment in primary schools fell slightly from 46 percent in 1991 to 44 percent in ...
